Agree. It seems quite common in the UK. We purchased tickets for the Chelsea Flower Show - expensive - but then couldn't go. We resold them within 12 hours on the authorised site. While I don't disagree with the AFLs no scalping policy.. they really should have a licensed reselling platform for people who for some genuine reason can't go.
Do you make any margin in re-selling, or it's just whatever the ticket cost you (or less, in some cases, I suppose)?Agree. It seems quite common in the UK. We purchased tickets for the Chelsea Flower Show - expensive - but then couldn't go. We resold them within 12 hours on the authorised site.
I was happy just to recoup almost the cost. I was in Australia and trying to post tickets etc overseas was problematic.Do you make any margin in re-selling, or it's just whatever the ticket cost you (or less, in some cases, I suppose)?
That is specifically for the MCC. Not from the MCG. So is another 1000 reserved seats for MCC full members (rather than them being walk up), so the try and make sure they fill the reserve. It doesn't change the number of seats allocated to clubs, MCC, AFL members, etc. From MCG
An additional allocation of approximately 1,000 reserved seats for the 2024 AFL Grand Final will be made available during the returned seat on-sale at 9.00am this Thursday via Ticketek.
This decision was made as a result of having two non-Victorian teams competing and the Club’s responsibility to maximise attendance in the Members’ Reserve.
I'm not likely to ever have any interest unless I promise daughter tickets to Taylor Swift but just curious. We had that happen at a theatre event. The people directly behind us had purchased from Viagogo. Then the original purchasers showed up. The usher knew who had paid for the original tickets and the viagogo people were led out the door.

Restricted MCC members don’t have access to the GF. So weren’t in the ballot. It only gets determined about 11am on the Saturday if they open limited tickets up to restricted members. While we may not like to accept that people won’t turn up despite best intentions, to ensure all seats are filled, there needs to be a returned tic process. The MCC members reserve as I understood it was a ballot which exhausted and many restricted members missed out on a tic in the first round. The seats will ALL be filled when the game time comes round
The original purchasers did not sell their tickets. It seemed like the Usher knew exactly what happened so likely a frequent occurrence.I'm not likely to ever have any interest unless I promise daughter tickets to Taylor Swift but just curious.
People sold tickets to a concert via Viagogo, pocketed money and then turned up to the concert? That's about as low as it gets. If so, jail is appropriate, not a fine.
Apologies if I got it wrong.
Oh. I'm curious and they let this practice continue. Awful. The original purchasers did not sell their tickets. It seemed like the Usher knew exactly what happened so likely a frequent occurrence.
Did anyone happy to get lucky over the past 24-48 hours in this space? There is a returned tix process for the MCC reserved seats, particularly as it gets decided before the teams are known. They get reallocated this Thursday.
So what happened? Was a barcode scan involved? The Viagogo tix were good enough to get past the door check. The original purchasers did not sell their tickets. It seemed like the Usher knew exactly what happened so likely a frequent occurrence.
I think it was only when the original purchasers showed up. I don't know what the scam was, they were sitting behind us. Just knew they hadn't bought original tickets, but resale ones amd they were the ones to be removed. So what happened? Was a barcode scan involved? The Viagogo tix were good enough to get past the door check.
Even if they didn’t get lucky in this, they can still get in just by walk up.Did anyone happy to get lucky over the past 24-48 hours in this space?
Interesting that the Lions have not been favoured in the betting over the last few weeks
and even today the money is firmly on the Swans. ( $1.75/$2.08 )
Most media pickers have also backed the Swans.
If I was a betting man, all that weight of opinion would have me with a few peso's on the Lions….
Earned myself the price of a beer last night at the local RSL.
TAB had an in venue promotion paying Lions at $5. Had $10 on that and $25 on Swans at $1.77.
