2024 F1 Thread

Just watching P1. A commentator has just said that Marco has confirmed that Liam Lawson will be in a RedBull next year. So RIC or PER in firing line.
Red Bull have cars in heaps of different categories...maybe Liam will be in a Supercar driving around Mt Panorama lol, Helmut the cagey old fox

IMHO. Had his chances. Time RIC gave moved on and gave way to other drivers. PER comes with a bucket of money I believe unlike others.
I hear you, but I honestly don't think the money is such a huge consideration to RBR in the cost cap era. Not saying it's of zero value, but I don't think it holds as much sway as it might have done pre cost cap. I also think RBR recognise RIC's inherent value in terms of car development and/or helping to groom their younger drivers. And quite frankly, RIC fits the RBR mould way better than PER ever has (or will).

Oscar, Daniel, Valteri, Liam and Jack ... winning ANZAC line up. RIC just needs to secure himself a spot.

I do have to say I'm thinking the Sainz/Albon driver combo is exciting - both very hard working, hard thinking strategic drivers.

Is Valteri one of ours due to his Australian girlfriend?😂

It's more than that, he's embraced the bogan lifestyle and makes the most of it any time he is in the country... definitely classed as an Aussie - they even had him up on a billboard for the Aus grand prix alongside Daniel and Oscar :)

Rumour has it that Liam Lawson is a chance to be 'loaned' to Williams and may replace Sargeant as soon as the next race for the rest of the year... solves two problems, Sargeant decimating Williams spare part list, and let's Daniel and Checo finish out the season in (relative) peace (and give RB a solid look at all 3 drivers for next year).

Great drive from Lando - thoroughly deserved.

Strong race really from Danny Ric. Say what you will about his Quali result, but he did the job on race day compared to his team mate. Shame he got no points, but probably fair to say they weren’t really there for the taking anyway for the VCARB team.

Very impressive from Lando, I thought here we go again when Max got him at the start, but fair play, he kept calm and smashed it.

Happy to see RIC get Stroll late on, a very strong race.
Shame Oscar was battling dirty air for the most part.

Only a week to wait for the next one :)

Colapinto a surprise.
Currently 6th in F2 (admittedly ahead of Antonelli and Bearman) with a win in a sprint and two 2nd places in the feature. Currently 21.

Had been rumours that RB was looking to buy the seat for the remainder of the year to give Lawson experience.

I think the sticking point with Lawson was RB wanted to be able to have him back "if needed" this season, and Williams wanted a lock-in until season's end.
Horner seemed pretty keen on it a few days ago, but must not have moved on the above....not sure if that means moves may still be afoot for Checo after the next few races

Feel sorry for Sargeant, but it’s not surprising he’s been dropped given his performances and the repair bill he’s accrued. I’m sure he’ll have a successful career in another category.

Colapinto is an interesting choice, but it’s god to see Williams giving their own juniors a go. Nice to see young drivers getting an opportunity.

This. Williams want stability for the remainder of the season and that was certainly not guaranteed with Lawson. Regarding the other option of Mick Schumacher, I believe the issues re: his availability due to WEC commitments and the associated expense payable to Alpine would have been a sticking point for Williams.

Always wondered if Safety Cars ever crashed!
It's being speculated that the Aston Martin suffered a mechanical/technical failure of some sort and that Maylander intentionally threw the car into a spin to minimise the size of the accident...

There are plenty of examples of F1's Safety Car and Medical Car having some wild off-track excursions and spins etc. however prior to yesterday's Monza shunt, there have only been 4 genuine incidents -:

1995: Monaco GP
During qualifying for the 1995 Monaco Grand Prix, Taki Inoue’s Arrows broke down. It was being towed back to the pits when it was hit from behind by the Renault Clio Safety Car. It wasn't captured on camera, but you can see the aftermath and damage below...

1995: Hungarian GP
Poor Taki... 3 months after coming to blows with the Safety Car in Monaco, the Medical Car (a Tatra 613) decided to land a blow of its own as Taki sought to douse his smoking Arrows car with a fire extinguisher after it broke down during the Hungarian Grand Prix...

2000: Monaco GP
In between F1 sessions at the 2000 Monaco Grand Prix the Medical Car - in the hands of Brazilian ex-F1 driver, Alex Ribiero, and legendary F1 doctor, Professor Sid Watkins, in the passenger's seat - was doing a lap to check the track was clear. Alex may have been pushing too hard into the left hander of Tabac when he failed to navigate make the turn and ploughed into the barriers, leaving Sid Watkins nursing 3 broken ribs...

2002: Brazilian GP
After Enrique Bernoldi crashed his Arrows F1 car at the Senna S during free practice, the red flag came out and the Medical Car was deployed. Alex Ribeiro was once again behind the wheel, but this time, was without fault. As he parked up behind the Arrows (seemingly out of harm’s way), Nick Heidfeld arrived on the scene at full speed in his Sauber - somehow managing to squeeze in between the Medical Car and the safety barrier - and proceeded to collect Ribeiro's open driver's door. Thankfully, Ribeiro hadn't begun to exit the vehicle...

Another good result for the McLarens at Monza.
If Oscar has another cracker start he can do well — so good to see the Red Bulls more muted and Max being challenged. And that new Mercedes pick - when he hits puberty he will be even faster!!

I think 2024 DtoS will be a great watch
