2024 F1 Thread

Welcome to the Paddock @patrickw đź‘Ť

Don’t have an answer for you about your ticketing issue, but wishing you good luck with it! Tickets are expensive enough as is without scalpers “helping”…

No plans to attend a GP this year (unless I’m the lucky winner of the Heinemann Duty Free competition ;)).

seems the local app for official release has sold out of everything, and scalpers are taking the piss with 6x the original price on sites like stubhub...
Interesting. F1 site still has nothing on it re tickets other than the expensive packages.
What site were you trying?

Went to Shanghai in 2018 (Dan's massive win) and it wasn't sold out, but obviously no China GP for a few years and now a China driver which might increase local demand.

(Was in Grandstand H which was pretty awesome for that race at the slow corner near the end of the lap)

I had also signed up with the F1 site, but was only contacted by the team that manages expensive packages.

@moa999 good to know about grandstand H - that was the section I was looking to buy too!
P1 Travel is an official reseller "for foreigners" and they sold out pretty quickly it seems.

Here were the reddit posts that I found after being quite late to the party:

Official launch, including details of the app
Commentary on ticket releases here, and here.

The series is much more interesting than the actual races which tend to be follow the leader and boring at times. :)
Latest I've head is "Google Drive to Survive" after the leaking of all the data about the Horner incident onto a shared drive.

Didn’t take long for someone to come up with that did it? 🤣

To be honest, I was expecting the messages would be leaked sooner or later. This is probably sooner than I anticipate….

Just released today and available for $239.20 delivered (just shy of $60 off RRP)…

If you're into Lego and F1, there's also this new set - McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna AUD$99.99

Walk in the park in the first race......
Not unexpected, but I think Perez was flattered to come in 2nd and we'll never quite know what Leclerc could have done without his brake issues, or what Russell/Hamilton could have achieved without their engine temp and battery issues (+ broken seat in the case of the latter). Regardless of how good Verstappen and that RB20 might be, it's considerably easier to do what they're doing when you aren't being pressured from behind. We were also denied some mid-race interest due to the dearth of VSC/SC periods.

Hopefully Mercedes and Ferrari sort their technical issues out for next weekend. We should also theoretically see a stronger performance from McLaren next race. I still live in hope that 2024 is not going to be a total cakewalk for Max.

No doubt everyone has seen Verstappen Sr putting the boot into Horner...

A power struggle that I think Horner will win.
My understanding of the situation is that Dietrich Mateschitz had a 49% share of the drinks company Red Bull and his Thai Partner Chalerm Yoovidhya the remaining 51%. However Mateschitz had a deed giving him overall control of the decisions. This deed expired upon his death leaving Mateschizs' son, Mark Mateschiz, a minority shareholder.
Helmut Marco, a close confident of Dietrich Mateschitz had a falling out with Horner last year. Verstappens father Jos, a "forceful" figure behind his son, has had a number of run ins with Horner. Both appear to be scheming to oust Horner, though Jos's comments are the first to be publiclly aired.
Chalerm Yoovidhya, the majority shareholder appears (at this stage) to be backing Horner, and if Verstappen snr and Markos' coup fails, where does that leave them ? Marko to go and Vestappen snr banned from the garage ??

Carlos Sainz has been diagnosed with appendicitis and will miss the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. He will be replaced for the rest of the weekend in Jeddah by Oliver Bearman, who is the team's reserve driver.

Would make F1 much more interesting if Max quit redbull!
IMO it’s bluster. If the RB investigation into the source of the text leaks forces Helmut Marco’s resignation where would VER
go ?.
I think his stated loyalty to Marco is not as great as his desire to win races, and Mercedes don’t have the hard product to offer this atm. An interesting game of poker is developing. More unpredictable than the races !
For context :-

The quicker Red Bull drop Perez and give someone else a go at keeping up with Max (*cough* Daniel *cough*) the better.

Perez did ok today.
Oscar solid, just couldn't get past Lewis for too long....would have been interesting if Lance didn't crash for a change and bring the safety so early...
Great start for Bearman, babysitting Lewis's next car.
RIC....cmon....

”Il bimbo della rossa“ did well! RIC not so well. Put up or shut up time for RIC given how well the new Zealander did in his absence last year?

If Horner gets the chop (unlikely) wonder if RIC will also lose favour?
