2024 F1 Thread

Cant believe RB couldn't announce it before Singapore and give him a proper, deserved, send off there.
As well as missing a proper send off, he spent the weekend trying to answer relentless questioning about it.
Disappointing.

Agree
Such poor form for a well respected driver.
It really is a brutal workplace - no matter how much you’re paid. He would be a media catch

The worst thing is that they informed him on Thursday and still played dumb for the entire weekend, forcing him to address questions over his future. The only way they can be excused is if they gave him freedom to announce and he chose to keep quiet rather than turn it into an event all about him. But I guess we won’t know the real story for. While to come.

Either way, sad :(

Perhaps as a reaction to RIC’s fastest lap spoiler in SIN, F1 is dropping the one bonus championship point for fastest lap in 2025.

I didn't mind the fastest lap. Adds a bit of spice of people potentially taking a gamble and making a mistake. Especially if the championship is tight and someone takes a gamble to pit and put softs on at the end to try and get that extra point.

Agreed.. the easiest reaction to RICs move would to have simply made it fastest lap within the top 10.

I don't understand the problem with what RIC did though? Still interesting enough if one of the bottom teams wants to chase that single point.

It's more the optics of a Red Bull-owned team taking a point away from RBR's closest competitor for both the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships in such a way that the driver/team earning fastest lap could not possibly receive the point for it. The individual action from the driver (RIC) and the team (VCARB) is not in question as it's entirely legit. The issue is that VCARB's actions are being called into question as a cynical attempt at supporting the parent team when the going has gotten tough in a tightly-fought Championship year. Other teams are concerned that RBR exerts influence over the actions of VCARB and this "collusion" is not really permitted and is not in the spirit of the competition.

Since it has been introduced, the one point has been awarded to the fasted lap if they were in the top ten. If you got fasted lap and were outside the top ten then you still had the fastest lap, you just didn't get a point.
Very sleezy move by Daniel and RB just to take one point off Norris if you ask me.

If you knew it was your last race, wouldn't you want to go out on a high?
Nothing to do with it IMHO. Just to help RB in champoinship races in light of failing VER and car performances. Tarnishes RIC's reputation if you ask me, and many others.

But sleezy behaviour is quite the norm in F1.

That’s a bit rough… I hardly think anyone is going to think back in RIC’s career and consider that 1 point he nicked off NOR in that one race. Again, in and of itself, there’s nothing wrong with it. The only thing that makes it seem dodgy-ish is the connection between VCARB and RBR. But good luck proving they were asked to do it by the parent team.

I kinda agree. He’ll be more likely remembered for taking the point off NOR than achieving the fastest lap ( a feat a lot of participants could have replicated with fresh tyres and little fuel.)

But unless the championship is decided by one point then….and if it’s that case then McLaren will be deeply regretting ordering NOR to let PIA pass to win in Hungary.

Agree with that. And on the off chance that scenario does come to pass, then whose fault will it be? VCARB/RIC for getting a fastest lap? Or McLaren for not being decisive when it might have been critical?

The other thing people forget is that teams - especially back of the pack teams - are always looking for a chance to give their sponsors some airtime during a race. Sure, RIC took fastest lap, but it was the Visa Cash App Red Bull F1 Team that got the airtime.

Well he indicated in the fact that RIC said he maybe expecting a nice million bonus at the end of the year for taking the point off the competition.

Is that the evidence you’re relying upon for your ironclad case for definitive collusion…? Hardly a smoking gun.
