2024 QF Inflight safety video

In the past 3 weeks, none of my 5 domestic flights (SYD-MEL) had the safety video. Have you guys noticed the same?

I'm told there is currently no version of this video for Boeing 737-800s without life rafts, only with. That's why you'd be getting a manual safety demo if you're on an older 737 that isn't fitted with life rafts.

I guess I shouldn’t expect to see a lift raft on my current flight then (nor do I want an opportunity to look for one!).

Does the safety card on life raft equipped aircraft highlight this luxury feature? Nothing on mine.

Reminds me of the old Varig safety cards that showed people in life jackets bobbing around the front of the plane ditched in water and poor people clinging to seat cushions (that maybe used as a flotation device) down the back of the plane! True story. I nearly pinched one of the cards but figured that was illegal (alas it was before the days of a camera in every phone).

In 2014 they removed them from some of the 737's:

That being said some QF 737s still have them in the overhead location whilst others have them stored in the lockers much to the annoyance of some on here:

Air Canada removed life jackets from at least some flights many years ago - including from my flight Vancouver to Victoria, where its at least 30km over water.

Well, that’s the thing. We appear to have the trap door but no safety video. Those things (or the safety certification) must cost a bomb? Surely they can’t be too heavy?

This safety video annoyed me the first time I watched it, and after completing at least 12 flights with the video (possibly more, I can't exactly remember when it came out) I absolutely can't stand it now. I've usually at least paid half attention to the safety demonstration / videos previously and at one point could recite the VA safety demonstration word for word. I now put headphones on and tune out the safety video as it feels like a boring commercial I've watched several times.

A side note, a positive to the Finnair wet leased routes I don't have to sit through QF safety video, the Finnair video is much better.

I have written safety briefs for offshore helicopter flights. This Qantas video IS NOT a safety video, it's a promotional video for Qantas, there, I said it. Can CASA please step in and take action against this stupid video. I get it that they have to attract attention, some airlines do it well, the Qatar one before the World Cup, great, Air New Zealand, awesome using Lord of Rings, BA using comic relief but this Qantas one is virtue signalling

Agreed. Personally the second worse offender was the VA Mt Panorama one for the 777, A330. It wasn’t as bad as this and didn’t go completely off script, it was just also fairly long and drawn out, I remember getting really bored and sick of that too.

My absolute favourite was VX (Virgin America) before their shutter.

I feel like some MBA has decided a long safety video is a good idea because it makes the taxing time more interesting for pax (it doesn’t). Also they have a captured audience so there is no strict time limit for the video and the creative departments get carried away. Possibly airline execs even prefer long safety videos because they think it will keep pax distracted to give the CC time to do pre take off activities without passenger interruptions.

In reality I think its incorrect, long boring videos with a whole bunch of fluff make people tune off even worse than the previous safety demonstrations.

I agree with all the rest, but I don't think airline execs generally give two hoots about assisting cabin crew.

They should let the pilots script it. Short, sweet, and too the point. “Listen to this or you might die…..”
Would they finish it iff with "Gidday" too?

Still doing manuals on 737s - at least all I've been on - so I've not seen the new vid in months.

When I heard of the first offshore helicopter briefs being filmed, they did some research and found most people switch off after 5 minutes so you have 5 minutes to present a short punchy safety video that covers all the safety requirements. If it's made funny or entertaining then you may get a few more minutes but the Qantas one isn't !!
