Qantas boosts international capacity, wet lease Finnair aircraft

The 81/82 is only scheduled for one day a week (82 on Thursdays and 81 on Fridays), when the AY A330 is in SIN for its weekly maintenance cycle.
There was a QF82 on Saturday and Sunday in the last 7 days, as well as a QF81 on Sunday.

What's interesting from FR24 is that QF291 on the 28th (Sunday) was assigned to be VH-EBR, and then the flight number changed to QF81.

I expect that QF prefer to have their own metal carry the usual QF flight number, differentiating from that allocated to the AY wet lease flights. There was quite a focus when the original announcement of the AY flights was made that the QF81/821 rotation would be dropped when QF291/292 were operating. While this may have led to a small increase in capacity to SIN, including some PE seats, the real capacity increase came from swapping the QF A330s toother routes.

Those two QF82s and one QF81 over the weekend were likely last minute operational swaps to cover OH-LTR, which was stuck in SIN. I don't think they were actually scheduled to be services operated by QF as the timetable only indicates QF81 operating on Fridays and QF82 operating on Thursdays up to October 2024.

I never said they were scheduled in my original post though, just that they were "intermittently replacing these services with QF metal A332's as QF81/QF82."

Hmm, well hopefully they've changed it's operational down time day from Thursday as I'm meant to be on QF295 in J on that day...

The Thursday downtime is only for the SIN route, QF295/296 SYD-BKK-SYD appears to operate daily.

I guess they will rotate whichever aircraft requires the 24 hour downtime through SIN as necessary as they can swap them here in SYD.

What lounges are people doing pre flight out of BKK in J?

Qatar seems best but not open til 16:30. Is EK fairly close by to spend time in before?

Qatar is great but couple weeks ago for something different I went to the EK lounge. Qatar is probably better but EK was still good. EK was extremely empty when I was there which made the service very attentive. I sometimes prefer the self service style vs table service. Allows me to eat as much of what I want and not wait for various dishes I've ordered to come out.

Flew on QF292 last night in economy.

What a breath of fresh air the AY A330’s are in comparison to QF aircraft.

I flew QF1 last week, and despite OH-LTR being a comparable age to VH-OQA, OH-LTR looks far more modern - from the modern looking seating to the superior IFE.

Now, generally speaking I find QF staff to be polite and attentive (especially when compared to VA). The AY staff were next level. Our IFE crashed early on, but they responded to our call bell quickly, fixed it, then checked in a few minutes later to make sure it was all fixed. In general though, they were just a joy. Service was generally joyful - like they enjoyed doing the QF292 run.

Yep...different operation altogether when comparing QF and AY. Each can have issues but generally I use AY when in Europe and also from SIN and BKK. Although I still.think generally VA staff are more attentive (in biz) than QF!

I wonder, when the AY wet lease becomes a dry lease late next year, if the aircraft will keep the AY seats, or if they be changed to the QF seats.
They are [currently] meant to keep the 2 aircraft under the dry lease for 3 years.

I have no interest in the numerous qantas PR puff pieces that appear regularly in airline and travel press. The cancer that Joyce infected the entire organisation with continues to mertastisise and it cannot be saved. Don't forget that so many of the most punative and disgusting actions during Joyce's final reign had the CFO's fingerprints all over them. That then CFO being Hudson.

Doubt they would pay to refurb for what is still a short term arrangement. I much prefer the QF seats, AY seats require one to be very agile to get out of the sleeping position.
