2025 F1 Thread

Netflix are talking about streaming F1 in the US from 2026. Might bring some competition (via a VPN).
Agreed. I know some are after an alternative to the Sky commentary team. Personally, I don't mind them (despite the clear bias to the British drivers, which if you think about it, is somewhat to be expected given their primary audience). What I object to at the moment is the monopoly that Foxtel has over the F1. Whilst I acknowledge that Foxtel have easily delivered the most comprehensive coverage of F1 on Australian TV screens over the years, the price is horrendous (Kayo notwithstanding these days) and the fact that we are locked out of services like F1TV really grinds my gears.

Thinking about Netflix taking over the broadcast in the US... ESPN currently has the US rights and they rely on the Sky UK commentary team. Will be interested to know what Netflix are thinking in terms of commentary? Do they similarly rely on Sky UK? Do they take the F1TV broadcast? Or do they introduce their own? Also, how hard do Netflix crack down on VPN access for these broadcasts? Much yet to be confirmed....

Agree..The ads are already embedded all over the track, drivers uniforms , name of the Grand Prix its Saturation. Heres an idea for a smart business -pay some bogan to get their products tattooed all over them then keep cutting to them. You heard it here first
You jest, but there is a long history of this sort of thing happening...

I've listened to the ESPN broadcast a few times. Truly terrible. I wonder what Netflix plans to do. I watched a really interesting documentary on my LATAM flight (IGU-GRU) about the money behind F1. Not sure if it's publicly available, but if it is, it's a good watch.

The full Sky coverage has ads throughout. Now, we all know how Netflix feels about ads.............

Noticed this on Kayo tonight, while watching the Daytona 500. I will watch I guess. Only ever seen him on Graham Norton...

At the F1 75 launch yesterday the FIA announced that the Monaco GP would include two compulsory pit stops to enliven the often processional race, which last year saw the first 10 qualifiers finish in exactly the same order due to the difficulty of overtaking on the street circuit.

Was just reading an article about that. It will certainly introduce more (forced) strategy, but I’m not convinced it will solve the processional nature of the event.

Well, the liveries are now out there for all to see -:

Curious to hear others' thoughts on the F175 Launch Event if/once you've seen it?

Overall, I thought it was good event and think it will be repeated into the future. Some questionable music choices, but that's always going to be a subjective matter. A few other thoughts from my end...
  • Wasn't sure what to expect of Jack Whitehall for the event, but I think he did a pretty good job with some light-hearted "roasting" of various attendees.
  • Very amusing hearing the reaction to mention of the FIA. Suggest Bin Sulayem would do well to read the room.
  • Some teams nailed the brief, whereas others apparently didn't get the memo (yeah, I'm looking at you Alpine).
  • Wonder what was going through the minds of the Mercedes PR/Marketing team with their "Every Dream Needs a Team" tagline, only to see Ferrari school them 5 minutes later on what constitutes a "Dream" (and an associated team)?
  • Christian Horner.... well, he did his best to hold it together (rather admirably, I might add, under the circumstances) 🤣

I watched it this morning to see how they approached it. Overall I though it worked well, except for the Top Gear vibe of it in the background.
I'd give them a B+, and maybe they'll do better next year

Just watched it...could have been half as long and still got the same details.
Whitehall did a decent job, but who were the other presenters?

They will do it again I think but it needs to in Netherlands next year so HAM gets booed.
Then Melbourne the year after etc...or make it like Eurovision in the winners country.
If it is in UK every year its the same old SKY F1 arguement.

The music sucked, one guy would be good at a NASCAR Race and with the exception of the old fogeys of half of Take That I didnt know anyone else....
It could be much better with some more well know musical names. Or just do as Red Bull did and play something classic rock.

I wonder if the Teams designed their own "intro" thing or it was done by whoever was running the show...

Interesting the biggest boo of the night was for the FIA. More than VER, Horner and Eccelstone all put together. Under the woke laws of the FIA those fans should be charged with bullying and thrown out....lol
