2025 F1 Thread

Mclaren still naive on strategy.
Quite a tepid race, thought the last 10 laps might spark to life….zzz

So Alpine deprive Doohan of an FP1 outing in favour of Hirakawa, then promptly allow him to bugger off to Haas as their new reserve driver.

Now to be fair, Hirakawa is a Toyota driver and Toyota Gazoo Racing have a technical tie-up with Haas (so Alpine may not have had much option to retain him), but this never-the-less gives all the appearance of an own goal from Alpine.

Alpine will have got sponsor money to have Hirikawa do Japan FP1, I dare say that was the motivation (and there is a requirement for a minimum number of rookie FP1 sessions each year)

Hopefully will make for an interesting race tonight. Looking like Oscar's race to lose, but we will see how it all shapes up.

Also nice to see Yuki making Q3 and not being that far off Max's pace. In other news, seems Albon was robbed of Q2 after Hulkenberg had his Q1 lap deleted. Seems like this is a bit of a mess now. People arguing they shouldn't haven't deleted it so late, if they were going to review it, delay Q2 by a few minutes.

Oscar looking pretty on-point in every session....consistency is improving, executing each time....much calmer than his teammate.
Lets go PIA!
A strong weekend from Jack so far as well, unlucky not to squeeze into Q3

It's a good day to be a Gasly fan .. it's been so long!

He's so dead by turn 4 though. Russell and Lando beside and behind? He's cooked.

RUS and ANT both bumped a place for their early release. From the sounds of it, the team got off lightly.

“We decide to impose a one position grid penalty. A similar breach in different circumstances could entail a more severe sporting penalty in future.”

Just silly for one minute early release. Nothing to do with the qualifying. F1 admin current are just incompetent. Financial penalties for the team but the drivers had nothing do with it.

I think the Albon situation eas more aggregious. How do they let Q2 start when Hulkenberg's last lap was under investigation (then subsequently deleted during Q3). Even if Alex did a terrible time he would've been at least P14 with Ocon crashing out.

And if the mistake was made why retroactively change it during Q3, most other sports just chalk it up as "missed it in the moment".
