2025 travel plans

Hang on... shouldn't that be in the 2024 Travel Plans thread? 😜

Jokes aside, hope it wasn't/isn't for anything serious.
Nope, but thanks for the well-wishing! :)
Jeez you're right though! My thought-process was that we're moving into somewhere with almost zero garden-maintenance, and once that's settles I'm hoping to be able to arrange Travel Plans for 2025, I had 2025 in mind and hence blurted the above ... totally forgetting how irrelevant it was. :D

Currently booked and/or in Progress:
  • Late January trip to Japan.
  • Mid February DSC run between MEL/BNE/SYD & AKL
  • Early March, Auckland Dinner, returning via CNS.
  • Early May, Cairns again
  • Late May, OzFest Adelaide
  • June, Japan via Fiji, Tokyo Lounge Crawl
  • Early November, Budapest/Warsaw/Doha via London, return via USA.
Will be booking:
  • Several weeks in Asia for Hotel Matteress runs.
  • Various other trips, utilizing the benifits of status along with re-earning status.

Honestly, Fukushima and Aomori are great for snow. Aomori has the highest snowfall of anywhere in the world. It’s crazy fun. There’s also a cool winter festival called the Towada Winters Tale held near Lake Towada. Worth checking out.

I've been to Tohoku twice, loved Sendai but honestly I need to go again (I'm thinking Akita in snow)...but I'll never do the kind of travel you prefer, clearly. And that's a good thing! We are all different.
I missed it in 22-23 season. They decided not to run it that year =(

But being in Tohoku during heavy snow season I'll just say it's both really cool to see but also a bit of a walking hazard. My partner on the first day in Aomori decided shes going to walk in the footsteps of a local. Then watched him trip and fall 30s later.

Also when blizzard kicks up, thats your day gone you're camping up somewhere nice and cozy.

Current Plans.,

NYE - Japan (unepexted HND - SYD release meant a random unplanned trip to start OWA).
Mid March - Tokyo (work)
May?/July? Either Queenstown or Bali, deciding with partner now (OWA)
October - EU (OWA)
Nov - SIN (Work)

I'm sure i'll have a couple more Mainland China, Japan and Singapore trips in there for work throughout the year.

So far I have a week in Algarve for my parents 50th anniversary, with a day in Frankfurt on the way there. We’re talking about a week in Vietnam though.

I think Japan wins as the most popular destination for next year.

Just don't be going and getting arrested y'hear?
Is there a way to find out how high each city's or region's OMFG -we're-so-sick-of-tourists-ometer is reading?

  • January - Japan for 8 days (Osaka, Kyoto and surrounds)
  • May - Singapore
  • June - Europe for 7 weeks (Belgium Trappist beer tour, Champagne region, Alsace, Luxembourg, Poland, Granada, Corfu, Dublin, Edinburgh and St Andrews).
  • October - Queensland
  • December - Potentially a trip to the Maldives but that depends if I can snag some reward flights

I mainly want to go to a ryokan and soak in onsen surrounded by snow!
But yes you need ice cleats to walk, at least I do!
Pair the cleats with something like this:

And yes I have one pair of those even though 0% chance of wearing it here 🤣

Aww man, that sucks!

Yeah walking in the snow is a bit of a challenge, especially as an Aussie who never saw snow before that moment. 😅

When the snow went wild, we went and explored the izakayas and bars as we were staying in Hachinohe when it picked up like mad.

Driving down a mountain during the snow, now that’s a challenge, especially at night. Can’t say I’d recommend it.

My 2025 is looking great! With a special shout out to the last 2 DSC offers, I have:
  • Arrive home on 7 January from a DSC trip to see Seat Son leaving 19 Nov this year CBR-SYD-BKK-DXB-MAD-DXB-SIN-SYD-CBR with CBR-SYD-CBR earning DSC and SYD-BKK and SIN-SYD also both earning DSC. While we are there we are also taking a side trip for a week in Sri Lanka (Galle area) from Boxing Day to 2 Jan.
  • Jan/Feb 2025 - ski trip to Hokkaido (will ski Furano) and a few days in Sapporo to visit the snow and ice festival, Otaru etc. Definitely NOT renting a car. This one is not on DSC.
  • May - trip to Gold Coast to visit the family (DSC)
  • June - trip to Melbourne for a fun time to celebrate Mr Seat 0A's birthday (DSC)
  • Aug/Sep - flights to connect to the "Celebrate 120 years of Marriage Cruise" with Mr Seat0A's sisters and their husbands) we will go CBR-SYD-xLHR-HEL-xLHR-SYD-CBR all on DSC. Plus will add Finnair flights from Helsinki to Reykjavik to start our cruise and from Oslo back to Helsinki at the end. Before the cruise we will have 3 days in Helsinki and a week in Iceland, and after the cruise a couple of days in Norway followed by the boat trip from Helsinki to Tallinn for a 2 week trip around Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. The cruise itself visits Iceland, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Scotland (Shetland) and Norway. It's my first cruise so I am largely looking forward to it, but a bit apprehensive about a few parts of it - like seasickness and shore excursions with thousands of people.
  • after that the year is open, and we will likely take another trip to Japan in January 2026 to ski some more if my health continues to behave!
I'm feeling lucky and grateful to have all these lovely things to look forward to.

A couple trips planned for 2025, like many Japan on the list. Thai will be our first time there.

  • January: Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam
  • February: Hong Kong, Taiwan
  • March: Dusseldorf, London
  • April: New York City
  • May: Las Vegas
  • August: Hong Kong, Sydney, Melbourne
