It was too dangerous to go hiking and with the road closed our access was quite limited, however the lodge gave us a $200 rebate which was unexpected and quite welcome. Our day of departure arrived and the road was still closed, however the rain had eased considerably with a chance of being able to depart. About 10:00 the announcement came that the road had reopened so our journey could continue without any delays. The departure was quite slow as there was literally a huge influx of cars and coaches coming into the sound which obviously impacted on the one way entrance and exit. After about a half hour delay, we were free and clear. We were on our way to Lake Teanau for a couple of nights to take in that glorious scenery.
