Thanks for your report - I had to cancel a trip out there earlier this year.

My flight into Longreach arrives at 3:55 PM on a Sunday, so hopefully I can get to one of the evening events at the Qantas museum

The evening events a really just a 20-30 minute light show. When I was out there a couple of the later sessions didn't even run due to lack of numbers but I was told that if someone had booked them they would have run it.

The light show is very good (bookings recommended!) but I hope you can also visit the museum and do an airpark tour the next day, @FishFood

My Spirit of the Outback service leaves at 10:00 AM so not sure I'll have time the following day. The trip is in August though, so maybe things will change between now and then
