I have heard reports of where you make a new booking on the Hilton website that if you then go and cancel the old booking the system goes and cancels your newest booking, but like others have said I would wait until you see the sale prices before I go and cancel the original bookings.

Johnk you should get some assistance from serfty and or Mal about how to properly set up your Facebook account, you don't have to be friends with anyone and no one need know that you are on Facebook accept for Hilton.

Its almost like having a phobia about flying Jetstar.

I've had it look like that had happened, but it did seem to fix itself after an hour or so.

Facebook is something that I've never really been interested in, as I don't really get (or maybe understand the concept). However, for 10,000 HHonors points I may be tempted to open an account, as I've a few Hilton bookings coming up.

I've googled trying to find out how to join but without it being known that I'm on Facebook ("Oh, I see that you're on Facebook now"), but haven't found out how to as yet.

First go to Facebook www.facebook.com

Basically once you log in go to your privacy settings and lock everything down.

The idea of Facebook is to connect people so in a way you want to do the opposite.

The default is everyone can friend you but need to lock it down so people can't contact you.

The only problem you have is that Hilton will need to see some of your details so you need them to know who you are.

You could also set up a different email address that you don't use, and that way people won't know your email address and so Facebook can't search it.

But then again part of the fun of Facebook is seeing what everyone else is doing and catching up with people from school or university from years ago and it stops the wondering what ever happened to this person.

I do not quite understand why HHonors have included the Facebook clause for the bonus points. I guess I will never understand.

It's just a marketing channel to them, and often there are promotions that are specific to various channels. They are certainly not the only company that have had promotions through Facebook.

...........and them seeing what I'm doing. Uhmmmm, I'm with the others, FB holds less than no allure for me. My OH has it though. I'm assuming I will be able to use her FB account and my HH account for this promo? Would that be doable?

I'm a huge fan of social networking, and if that also means certain specials or offers are available to be seen by using it..then I think it's great.

may I just clarify all this please. Apologies if it's a bit nooby.
The Any Weekend Anywhere sale is already long in existence, yes?
So the only new thing here is the ability to gain 2500 points for stays booked in the period for this particular new promotion?
Question for those who cancelled existing bookings and intend to rebook.....will your rate be any better? And if not is it worth the effort to cancel and rebook for 2500 HH points per booking.

Thanking you in advance

BTW: I intend to make a couple of new bookings

As Any Weekend Anywhere Sale bookings are non-cancellable, the Facebook promo would really be for new bookings I'd have thought.

ok, correct. I missed that.
But am I right in saying that some posters earlier in the thread have talked about cancelling bookings and making new ones?
If so, my question remains: is it worth cancelling to make a new (non refundable) booking for 2500 points per booking? Of course I understand everyone's point's valuation varies and I imagine some do it for the "game". I am trying to understand because I need to do some booking soon. And am struggling to see the value in 2500 points plus a few dollars saved over the AA rate which is changeable.

edit to add: maybe it's the double stay credit or am I mixing my promotions. That said I think the double stay credit is available on the Any Weekend Anywhere promo anyway

I would presume discussion about canceling bookings relates to those considered "flexible" which can be canceled without penalty.

I cannot envision any situation where 2500 HHonors points would be worth the cost of canceling a non refundable rate.

That is not a phobia. It is taking a stance and sticking to it.

I still don't see it.

Hilton is saying book with us and then go to Facebook to get some extra Hhonors points. Makes no sense to me.

OMG!

Rule of thumb - if you have a cancellable booking which you intent do replace, never cancel it until AFTER you have booked it's replacement.

You only put yourself at unnecessary risk of not getting as cheap a rate in the first instance or indeed finding the property sold out and no longer be able to be booked at all.

yes, that's what I was struggling to understand. The Anywhere, Anytime sale isn't new as far as I can see. The only thing you are getting from this promo is 2,500 HH points.

So the poster who cancelled all his/her bookings has changed from a flexible booking to one that cannot be changed (and was available anyway) for 2500 HH points per booking?

I still cannot make rushing into this stack up. I think I'll wait for the web site to be quieter at a time of my choosing and book a nice AA rate.

NOTE: I'm not having a go at anyone, just trying to learn the ropes. Please correct me if wrong. I totally understand people put different values on stuff

LOL at least I don't have the facebook bit to overcome :) and I still cannot make sense of some of it

The Any Weekend Anywhere Sale discounts vary worldwide, from 15% to 40%, depending upon which region you are looking at. For example, for Australia it's up to 25%: Hilton HHonors | A Hotel Rewards Program

I don't know if there's a fixed AAA discount. Sometimes I've seen it with only a few dollars off of BAR (say 5%). I looked at something for next week at HOP and the AAA rate is $256, with a BAR of $269 and the Any Weekend Anywhere rate is $201. You'd need to check the hotels that you are interested in.

I usually book a flexible rate in case my travel plans change.

yep I was looking at USA where Any Weekend Anywhere (did I get that right before?) is only 15% off, so your point is well made
And I agree with your point about the flexible rate. Thanks for the reply. It's helping me understand. I don't think this flash promo is worth it for me

I see you later qualified this with
I don't think this flash promo is worth it for me
which answers your own question. Everyone is different and you were only looking at the promo from your specific circumstances. Others may have very fixed dates they can lock into, others might be just a few days away and don't have any issue with prepaying and remember it's 2500 points per stay to a max. 10000 points which is worth considering.

For me, I do have fixed dates, I don't mind prepaying, I know the best rates I can usually get at the hotel and the AWAW sale is only marginally higher than the best rate I have ever seen there, I do want the double stay credit so why not grab extra points?

As far as small point rewards go, the 1000 point "My Way Bonus" seems trivial, but after 37 stays, that equals a night at the Conrad Rangali in the Maldives (worth about $700-$800. Not so trivial considering it's a bonus! For frequent stayers, all these "little" bonuses add up to value rewards. For not so frequent stayers, the value is not so readily realised.

You're certainly wise to weigh up your requirements against offers and choose which best suits you. We all do the same. For the record, the stays I wanted are the exact same prices as I was previously about to book for, except now I get 5000 points to boot. For me it's a small but welcome point boost!
