27th February Big Qantas announcement

The current 744 is restricted to BNE so it's still better which was the hypothesis under discussion, I don't think anyone is arguing a 777 would be better still

... and contrary to the views of some, not every QF international flight needs to depart and land in SYD!! The established route DFW-BNE works very nicely, with a lot of pax completing their journeys in BNE, or transferring to domestic there for a whole range of domestic ports.

About time for my 2c ....

QF withdraws from oneWorld, sells part of QFF to EK and allows for greater integration with EK Skywards.

Announces plans to completely withdraw the remaining non-ER 747s ASAP, drops SCL and announces plans to drop JNB.

Drops the QF9/10 DXB-LHR-DXB legs, sells the slots and those still leased to BA (I think they're still leased to BA ...)

Cancels a number of the remaining 787 options.

Regards,

BD

^ May as well start nailing the coffin shut if that materialises..

The only dummy spit I see, is coming from the QAN side.

They are the one who have been gorging the cake (at our, the flying publics', expense): And when little Virgin has wanted to take a small piece, Qantas has tried to muscle it out of the way, by inviting over two friends for every one that Virgin has invited to the party, hoping to ensure that Virgin can't even get to the cake!

.....Robust competition is in the national interest, not supporting 2 for 1 strong arming tactics!

Actually you could take that analogy even further that by asking for the Government Debt garantee - QF management are demanding that they can continue to invite 2 of their freinds for 1 of Virgins and if QF runs out of cake then they want the government - and by logical extension the australian taxpayer to bale them out and buy them another cake.

I also say yes to the removal of the QSA restrictions, but not for QF management and shareholders to be given licence to go broke and then expect the taxpayer to bale them out. Somewhere in here the shareholders have to make the board accountable so that they can make QF management accountable for the mess that they have put themselves in. And then find some people with some ideas about how to restore QF to profitability - if it is going to be the taxpayers whom do this then I say fine - just make sure that the current management are all completely gone....

I think Joe Hockey's reservations about this and his description of being "dragged kicking and screaming to the table" say plenty about his opinion of the matter and also speaks volumes about the competence of the current QF board and management.

QF withdraws from oneWorld,

Why on earth would they do that? oneworld brings them business (especially from north America, the UK and parts of Asia) - in fact, the two pillars of QF's passenger base are membership of oneworld and the alliance with EK.

Qantas won't be dropping anything that makes a profit or brings in a substantial amount of business. What needs to go are the things that lose money.

I would not be surprised to see N,O and Q becoming non earn fare buckets.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Can't see that happening. Virgin would be licking their lips.

I wouldn't be surprised. N, O and Q could become non earn fare buckets. But you might be able to add a "Qantas Points Value Pack" on to your fare, where you earn status credits and 'valuable' Qantas FF points for a hefty fee, a la Deathstar.

It would be easier to just maintain/increase levels for points redemptions so they can continue with the minimum points guarantee as a marketing tool.

That would basically undermine any loyalty I have to Qantas, given I can only book BFOD ± a few percent. Work would never pay for the points value pack.

QF should drop LHR, SA, and concentrate on the closer markets they can make money on.

North America
Asia
Dubai

They should do a deal with EK where QF is flying from all major AU ports to DXB, and that's it.

Beef up Asia dramatically, and improve North American links..

Better off just dropping the Qantas brand.

Before giving up is Qantas going to give another CEO a chance?

Aw gawd - don't give them any more ideas! Would doing this somehow help out the bottom line of QF or be some sort of precursor to separating out and trying to float/flog off the QFF Frequenty Flyer part of the business?

You would think that the competative prescence of VA would prevent any such enhancement at the moment but its still possible I guess.

If that happened then that would be the end of me Flying QF ......... Simples

They'll hammer staff, entitlements routes before they go anywhere near destroying QFF. QFF may well need to change however, IMO they will pull other levers to avoid tweaking with QFF.
