No I think there will still be plenty of focus on the VA numbers!

Yep there will be and just remember service on VA, both J and Y is still pretty darn ordinary as are their lounges. If the numbers are bad for QF, it a problem almost solely of their own making.

maninblack, your post is a little ambiguous. When you say 'their', are you as I suspect referring to VA (in other words, you believe that VA should be doing well given QF's larger loss to be announced this Thursday), or are you saying that QF is almost solely responsible for QF's losses?

I would hate to say told you so but a lot of posters on this board look like they were right.........about the A380 reconfiguration. How much money was wasted on that project, not to mention having less J seats and more economy? J cabin makes you money, so what do they do, reduce the number of seats. The comments about the toilet count etc were spot on but the simple economics of it just shows how poor the decisions at the board level have been recently.

At least the 747's needed it - the older product was just not acceptable.

Passes my mind (at post#517) ..that aj may finally have learned something about pr.
Everyone is expecting the worst , maybe the actual announcement will be quite benign.
While folks are popping the bubbly after a huge sigh of relief..a few sharp changes might slip through buried in the detail.

that's not going to happen :)

Not to mention that the A380 cabin is now 6 years old and will need an update in 2-3 years to remain competitive...the J seats are already failing!

Hi all

Firstly please dont shoot me if no announcement comes on the 27th however talking to several of the staff on 2 recent QFi flight's including the CSM they all suggetsed to me that the 27th February was going to see a big announcement. No one could provide any further information, there was however lots of rumors amongst the staff as to likely news, all of which have been covered with in this forum of late.

Again I have no clear idea as to what is about to transpire and it could be nothing. :D

Talking to an off duty Jet* person yesterday, I believe there will be a "restructure" across the board. It will be interesting to see who is left standing . I can only suspect that job losses and off shore service providers will feature

Bit puzzled about the TK move, who was the bright spark to come up with the idea to hive off a third of the A380 fleet. Can't, imagine why TK hasn't jumped, although the fact they have no aerobridges for an A380 at home meaning they would need stairs could be a factor......

I think we should all be concerned about what's happening to Qantas. I fear the worst, as that little Irish germ has destroyed the last two? airlines he's had anything to do with! I don't believe in "national flag carriers", but the loss of QF would not be good for Australian jobs, their suppliers or public confidence. JetStarve getting more routes is just too gross to contemplate, and my favourite places are serviced by too few carriers and very little by way of good fares. Alas, we can only wait and see! R.I.P the Qantas we knew.

If they hive off any of the A380 fleet, it will be the lot. So my random speculation (which is as good as anyone elses here!) I'd say what's left of the A380 order is at risk. The 747s will go, and some 777s will roll on in....

Its fine to critique AJ's performance but not of his previous nationality.

Just as it's not fine to call misogyny when it's a persons performance that has been criticised. ;)

Simple fact people. Staff are paid far more than the competition pays their staff, taxes are higher in australua, superannuation etc etc. It goes on. I'm not saying they are overpaid, they do have a demanding and high pressure job and are extremely skilled people, but, when other carriers pay half the tax, half the wages, no / less fuel taxes, how the hell can they compete. Australia is taxing itself out of business and the unions are doing their bit with unsustainable wage demands

Many airlines in the world are faced with a similar situation and they deal with it.

Even Qantas.

Lots of Qantas staff and operations are not Australia based.

The Yanks deal with it via Chapter 11.

We don't have that recourse....QF/Gov are taking the obvious route to achieve a similar result.

I guess it depends on how you value points but, at least to me, you're gaining them as a reward for something. Whether it's spending money or flying. Hence, unless you're going out of your way to book flights to gain points you aren't exactly paying for them. In this sense at least, I always see them as a nice to have. If I want to take a last minute spur of the moment getaway I will use points so I guess it's not a huge issue for me but I do understand how for some it's almost as valuable as money.
I see them as a reward for the inconvenience of commuting. Ideally I would like to use them on Oneworld RTW awards with a focus on golf. The problem is I am too busy to use them right now. Hopefully the points will still be there when I am ready to use them.

I don't think going SYD-BNE-TSV 27 times is a very useful use of points and I would get bored after 1 trip anyway.

True. I know I am taking some risks storing the QFF points. I even don't mind if the QFF points devalue as that is expected.

My plan was to retire in 2-3 years and start using them on Oneworld awards till I got sick of flying. I did not plan on the CEO sabotaging the company's future.

I hope your plan comes thru and you get to enjoy what you desire!

Lets face it - you're joined by more than a few million others hoping for the same....including me.

I'll just throw this one out there for my own amusement - how long before an A380 is in JQ colours?
