27th February Big Qantas announcement

Well with the axing of the one remaining QFi flight ex-PER, I no longer have any reason to stay loyal to Qantas, as nearly all of my travel is overseas. I'd been using that QF flight to get to Singapore for connections to the rest of Asia, and to connect through to Europe. Now, due to my limited domestic travel, and zero desire to transit through Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane when I can just catch a CX or MH flight instead, there is no logical reason to continue flying the red roo.

Sorry, but at the price point that QF charges, and the lack of services from Perth, it is no longer something I am prepared to try and justify for the sake of more QFF miles. It will be better for me to aim for a status match with another international airline servicing PER and ditch QF entirely.

I'm done.

At least CX and MH is part of One World Alliance.

What are the lounge offerings like in PER for CX and MH as QF will be no longer needing one very soon.

Unfortunately booked PER-SIN then 3K to BKK via .br so it's probably all a bit difficult! The call centre has probably gone into meltdown! At the time of booking I decided I could handle the 3K SIN-BKK knowing we'd get QF for the main leg of the trip. Might just suck it up and feel some sympathy for the 5000 about to be stood down. and FWIW I got the trip at a bargain price :-)

And the point I'm trying to make is that a "home" carrier's international ops doesn't serve a bunch of "home" ports, because they leave from a hub in the home country, and radiate out to other countries.

No worries, of course thats not the case with NZ though, which is kind of the point

the good news for flights ex Perth is that qantas will accommodate affected passengers on MH or CX.

however... it appears pax on award tickets are shafted because re-routing will only be available subject to award availability.

if that is the case (I hope I've got that wrong), and if you are in the position that qf cannot find alternative availability, you should consider legal avenues or consumer protection avenues to force the contract you have. from the point of the consumer there is no difference between a paid ticket and an award ticket.

given QFFF made a huge profit, they can afford to pay for a revenue ticket for you.

hope no one gets caught out though.

CX uses the QF lounge, and MH has its own. The QF lounge is superior to the MH lounge, but the MH lounge isn't actually bad. There's going to be a massive increase in numbers in the EK lounge now, as presumably that's where everyone's going to head for their Europe flights. Doesn't fill me with joy, it's busy enough now as it is.

I must say that the criticism of using the Westin is a bit overdone. We stay in Sydney 3-4 times a year.SPG by choice but would stay at the Hilton if cheaper.always take the cheapest option. In the past that would be the 4 points but in 7 years 2 stays at the Westin,2 SOTP and 1 at the hilton. But next 3 bookings 2 at SOTP and 1 at the Westin.

This announcement just confirms our plans of the last 12 months to use any other airline than QF as our preference in and out of Australia.

I think the point was why be at a hotel more so than any particular hotel, although the Westin is not cheap for functions from my event experience. The hanger or staff training facility at the village square would have been cheaper???

This happened to me a few years back with the BA cabin crew strike. Award ticket in J through QFF, BA flight HKG to LHR cancelled. QFF offered me an award flight in Y 4 weeks after my original departure, it was the next available!! Back then QFF award tickets were worthless unless you wanted the points back. Good luck with getting them to act differently this time!

I wonder if my already purchased return ticket to BKK on 1st July is still going to operate on days and dates specified, and on QF not EK, or even worse on JQ!!

The main losers are status PAX on QF in Y/PE that then get shunted to EK, where they get no real recognition. And I guess AFFers fall into that bucket.

I'm always happy when I get 'shunted' to J or F after booking into EK Y as a QF WP. It's never happened to me on QF before.

I was at a funeral of a nice prim and proper Lady of 70 years yesterday and her son said one of her favourite quotations was

" Negative people are like clouds. When they coughk off you have a beautiful day".

I was hoping AJ would end his conference with "you won't have Joyce to kick around any more because, gentlemen, this is my last press conference", but the way he dodged the question about his future makes me think it can't be too far away.

Maybe let him undertake the job cuts and then leave by the end of the year in a face saving manner citing the reductions in costs he has achieved.

I do not think you are wrong: (Latest Qantas News)
For customers on Frequent Flyer Award Tickets:
...
Passengers who are travelling on Qantas & Partner Classic Award tickets are entitled to the same options and conditions as listed above provided any travel rebooked or rerouted is made on an eligible Qantas Frequent Flyer Partner Airline and any travel booked on a partner airline is subject to award seat availability. Classic Award tickets cannot be retained in credit.
That really stinks!

I'm in exactly the same boat. The handcuffs are truly off! The SQ chicks are hotter anyway.

Ditto here. Will never fly Jetstar to Singapore. Will now fly Singapore air exclusively to Singapore 2 or 3 times annually.

It is a sad day for loyal Qantas flyers in the west.
