Hi dude_wit_gun; welcome to AFF :D

I'd consider he was quoting the party line.

See post #587 ...

I noticed this: For domestic ATM withdrawals, there is no ATM owner fee for cash withdrawals from Westpac ATM’s but you may be charged owner fees from non Westpac ATM’s. You will be advised of the charge at the time of the withdrawal. For overseas ATM cash withdrawals, you may be charged ATM owner fees but you will be advised of the charge at the time of the withdrawal.

So perhaps not the best to use as a debit card.

I applied for a supplementary card for my daughter a short time before the announcement of the new 28 degrees card change. The new card is to start being sent out today, 17/11. Yesterday, 16/11, I received the supplementary card for my daughter. The Wizard card. As I leave Perth in the middle of next month, I hope that both the new 28 Degrees cards arrive in plenty of time. I rang Wizard yesterday, but couldn’t make much sense of the reply to my queries.

Thanks serfty i didn't read that far back in the posts.

i used the card for cash withdrawals while my card was in credit extensively when i travelled overaseas 2 years ago without a hiccup. Atm fees being charged i can deal with but as long as the card doesn't suspend while im overseas then all is good.

sinophile888 i called the guy today and he said they should come in next week or maybe even this week if your lucky. Hopefully this ends up being the case.

I called the customer service number to check if everything was still the same with ATM withdrawals and he advised me not to put the card in credit to make cash advances because the security system might barr the card making it unusable.

cough people.
Please stop calling asking these stupid questions.

Just applied online and approved, credit limit of $7500.00 which will come in very handy for my Hong Kong trip next month, card should arrive in 5-10 working days.that will take some pressure off my other cards.:)

"Let sleeping dogs lie".

Some questions in life just should not be asked..or at least asked to some people/companies anyway!!

Personally I think you are crazy for advising him that was your intention.

Wizard has been happy to turn a blind eye to this since inception. But officially they are always going to advise that it is a bad idea.

Actually raising it with them is just asking them to block your use of the card in some way.

Was it Confucius who said "the law may sleep but it never dies" translated into this scenario: is that whilst Wizard may turn a blind eye to it for now, they have the right the crack down on the cash advance facility if your card is in credit & withdraw it at any time.

Well I'm glad our trip to Europe wasn't 2 weeks earlier, as my Wizard card appears to have been deactivated.

Called customer care, and was told this is because our new 28 degrees cards have been mailed (but haven't arrived as yet). I hope they arrive before the end of next week! Was told to allow 7-14 days from mailing (16th Nov).

There appears to be a very sharp crossover from old to new. It would have made more sense to me if the old card was still active until you activated the new card, but perhaps there's a technical reason why this couldn't happen.

Logging in

I am having a similar problem with the website. When I logged in under my card it advised me that the certificate was not right. Now I can't even log in under my husband's account as it says his card hasn't been activated. Bit hard to activate when we haven't received it

Yes, that's the same error I get when I try to log in to the website. Old card has been deactivated, new card hasn't arrived yet

I also get the security warning.

Bit of a mess, really.

Same here. They must have produced all the cards and they're sitting waiting to go out because generally Wizard cards have come overnight for me (from Melbourne).

Bit worrying as I'm going overseas as well.

I get a reminder message with an OK button:
Card activation reminder

Welcome back.

It appears that your card hasn't been activated yet, and you'll be unable to make purchases.

Activating your card is easy - simply call us and follow the prompts.

Clicking OK takes me to my account summary page.

Yup - just click 'ok' and it takes you through to the normal page where you can view all your transactions etc. Was a bit confusing at first!!

Thanks for the heads up. Will warn out my parents that if my card rejects I will be using my card off Mum's credit card (which is a different brand).

Same thing happened to me. The problem is that I'm going overseas on Friday and, as always, use the Wizard card for drawing cash.

I have just called the Service Centre. This is the deal: New cards, with different numbers, are in the process of being mailed to all existing card holders. When you receive the new card you will need to call the Service Centre to activate that card. At that point, your balance, transactions etc. will be transferred from the old to the new card and your old card will be deactivated.

If you don't activate your new card, you can continue using the old card till 30 December at which point it will be de-activated.

If you are already out of the country and only returning after 30 December, I guess you could have a problem.

Regarding using the card as a "Debit Card" - I've never had a problem. I always put the card in Debit before I go and then draw cash while overseas. No fees at all. Maybe the trick is to keep the Debit balance under (say) $5,000. If it goes higher, it could trigger some automatic alerts. I also do make the occasional purchase with the card. Am happy for Wizard to make the commission on the card (without having to pay for points) - its a great deal for consumers and I don't want Wizard to change the rules/conditions!

I'll update this thread if I have a problem with the card while away.

Sigh

Still nothing in the mail.

We are leaving on our trip on Monday week, and won't be back in the country until mid January. I will be putting on my Not Happy Jan face if the new cards don't arrive by the end of next week. We only applied for the wizard cards a couple of months ago, specifically for this trip.

Again, I question why the old cards couldn't stay active until the new ones are actived, or at least give a little more time than Dec 30!

Interestingly, the guy I spoke to yesterday said the card numbers would be the same. I hope I don't run into any issues with accommodation that I've used the old card to book while we're O/S if the numbers have changed. That would be Not Happy Jan time again.
