After reading the problems people have been having with the card I thought I'd recount my many years with this card. I've had the card since it first came out (used to be called Clear Advantage M/C) and have travelled a lot with it, never had a problem. Never been to Europe with this card and have a 6 week trip coming up. Seems a lot of people are having problems with denied transactions etc., I'm really surprised at that. Maybe some of these problems relate to what your credit rating is, what your $ limit is, or even how long you've been a customer, who knows.
I've pre-booked most of my Europe trip over the past 6 months or so, using the 28 degrees card. Ranging from 2 star hotels in Italy (direct with the hotel), agencies like expedia, venere and booking.com, TGV Europe, Eurostar, Easyjet, omniticket, vivaticket and ticketclic in Italy, local bus companies in both Italy and Switzerland, Trenitalia, specialised tours direct with the tour provider, eg. Vaitcan, Borghese gallery in Rome etc etc etc. Out of all these 10s of transactions the only slight problem I had was that on one occasion the supplier put in the wrong expiry date for my card.
In addition to all this I buy a lot of stuff through Amazon UK and US, ebay and many other transactions direct with overseas suppliers. I've never had one single problem over all these years. So why are people getting random transaction denials, it can't be related to the supplier, many of the failed transactions I've been reading about here are with the same suppliers I've dealt with.
Anyway, although I've used the card a lot I've never experienced a locked card. Do they lock individual cards or the account. Both my wife and I have a card. I've had problems in the past where ATMs swallow my card but never o/s. It's a real pita, even when it happens locally. I asked 28 degrees if I could get a couple of spare cards just in case this happens, they won't do that, but you can get up to 9 cards total. I was thinking of getting a couple of cards in my kids names and take these cards with us (the kids won't be coming on this trip). Has anyone gone down that path.
