30 Nov 15 A new bus interchange at MEL AP

The bus bays are on the ground floor of the "Transport Hub". There are 7 levels of parking etc above it.

Arrived today at the normal T1 bus stop to find a ghost town. Not even a damn sign advising pax it had moved. Just nothing.

I Google it, realise what's happened, and start the hike over.

On the walk over I spot no signage advising of public buses, public transport, PTV, bus stop or anything similar. At the new 'bus interchange' there's minimal signage, so even if you had managed to make it that far (and detoured through T2 arrivals to top up Myki) you still have to really look to know you're at the right place.

And forget about seating while you wait. There's certainly none of that!

We're most definitely second class citizens using the 901, but hey – you get what you pay for and that works for me. Honestly it's amazing PTV is even allowed as close as T4!

Wow! The stop could not be further away and still be in a terminal ...

Well, it is in the same time zone as the airport...just...

Just looking at the map you can see the bias the owners MEL have against public transport and no I don't consider Skybus public transport.

Was there a stop at T3 for the 901? Assuming there wasn't one, looking at the map, if the pax is arriving in T3, the walk would be roughly the same distance. I'm assuming the map is to scale.

Nope only ever one stop for public buses.
Initially on a desolate road a block from T4, then to the T1 spot, now back to near T4

Is there a correspondence between the locations of the Jetstar terminal and the ground transportation terminal?

Interesting things are observed while wandering

Meanwhile, there is nothing at all on the airport website advising of the change! Dear me, they really couldn't give a cough could they...

How about we have a massive write in campaign to the Melbourne airport people complaining about the website and the lack of a redirection sign in the old location.

I hate it when the airport omits the proper instructions for wandering

I have just sent them a message asking "where is the new bus stop" as it still shows the old site online. See what sort of reply I get...

This might be something the tabloid/rag or the current affairs program might be interested in. If anyone wants to have a few seconds of fame, they can stand at the old T1 stop with a luggage, looking sad and lost.

This is the 4th location I am aware of.

Some years ago (before the 901) the bus stop was outside the International terminal. I used to catch the 478 service to Essendon R/S from there.

When the 901 was introduced it was moved to an exposed area about 500 metres to the south (close in location to where it is now - just that there is now a building enveloping rhe area).

A year or so ago it was moved 700 metres back north to near the far end of T1 - a cynical thought is that was merely so they could build T4.

Now it is back inside T4 near the southernmost extremity - as far from the gates as possible.

Unless you are flying Jetstar?

I a short while I will be wandering away from my computer for a couple of days...

Even Jetstar ... I'll have a look to compare how many steps to JQ check-in later this month.

As you exit the JQ baggage collection area it's about 300 metres.

Tiger PAX a little better off, in the realms of 50 metres closer.

There are signs for "public transport" buses but only after you get within 100 metres. Before that follow the signs for "Bus".

It took me 8 minutes to walk from the VA lounge.

But stop is now signed, bay 17 for 901, bay 18/19 for 478 etc.

There is a small 901 timetable on the wall near bay 17.
