30K Bonus Velocity Points or 250 Status Credits or $200 Coles Voucher with New Credit Card

So I applied and got approved for Virgin Money Flyer Card on 23/3, even though I cut the same card in October last year. I just received my first 25K Velocity points, and then 30K bonus Velocity points after the first statement has come through. I really thought about getting the 250 SCs as I already had 62 SCs out of 400SCs to maintain Gold. But since I won't be flying VA soon I decided to get the points instead.

Just applied for the Virgin Money Flyer CC
I can't see in anything in the Terms & Conditions regarding eligibility for bonus. Normally there's a paragraph that outlines eligibility in relation to previously held points earning cards. I've scanned the Things You Should Know as well as the Velocity Rewards CC T&C's PDF

I'm guessing it's 12 months as that's the most common one, so that's what I'll put in my churning spreadsheet.
I reapplied the Virgin Money Flyer CC in March this year, after cutting the same card in October last year. I've just got my first round of 25K Velocity bonus (+30K additional bonus from this promo). So the 12 months exclusion period does NOT apply.

Good to know thanks!

How long did you keep the card for @kamchatsky ?

I went for the 250 status credits on the Virgin Australia Velocity Card.

Do I need to spend $1,500 per statement month to get the points? I only spent $1,200 in the first month and then $3,800 in the 2nd month.

Pretty sure the condition is to spend minimum $1500/month. Could just call them and plead ignorance.

Actually this is an interesting one, as there technically is no minimum spend on this card. The min of $1,500/mth is to get a bonus 30K Velocity points.

Anyone have experience yet with registering for the promotion within the timeframe, but applying for a card afterward (and getting the bonus)?

I registered and knew I wouldn't apply during the timeframe (we are going through home mortgage process currently). But I will do shortly if it's likely I'll still snag the bonus.

Whatever amount of money you spend, you will get 0.66 points/dollar.

When you asked: Do I need to spend $1,500 per statement month to get the points? I assume you mean the bonus points (30K or 25K).

Last month I spent just over $1500, 2 line items appear on my Velocity statement:

Velocity Points - Virgin Money Cards 991 points
Flyer 100K Offer 25000 points

The card’s own bonus is based on spending $1,500 per statement month for the first 4 months to get 25k points for each statement month when you meet that minimum spend (plus std pts at 0.66/$1)

The additional Velocity bonus (30k/250 SCs/Coles voucher, whichever you chose) requires you to hit that spend target in only one month, i.e. you don’t have to make all 4 months, just one month where you meet the spend criteria is enough.

(This is not at all clear in the ts&cs of the Velocity offer, but this has been the experience of multiple people on this thread—many people got the extra bonus after month 1. I got mine after month 2 having opened this card prior to the Velocity offer. As I said upthread, strongly suspect that Velocity do not know when you opened the card—they simply trigger the bonus when a transaction with a specific description/points value hits your Velocity acct—it is also clearly automated as the Velocity bonus posts at the same time as the 25k & std points).

In the case above where you spent $1,200 on first month and $3k+ on month two, I suspect you’d get no bonus on month 1 (just the std pts) and the 25k + std points + your selected Velocity bonus on month 2.

Probably too soon to say yet this time as even if you applied right at the end of the offer you’d only just be getting the first month’s bonus now. However, they ran a similar offer last year and people got the bonus many months after the offer ended. There is a thread somewhere on here about it.

I suspect that you’d have at least four months from the end of the offer if you’re getting the Virgin card, because if you opened it during the offer you could technically miss the spend target for the first three months, but hit it on month four and be entitled to get the Velocity bonus.

Probably the thing to watch for also is when the specific card bonus offers end. If it’s not the same card offer with the same bonus points transaction I suspect that might prevent the Velocity bonus from posting.

Ok, but if I'm after the Status Credits (not the velocity points) doesn that mean I'll never be able to meet the criteria (aka in the first month I spent 1200 and the second month I spent 3800)???

Or does that mean if I spend 1,500 in the next month I'll get the Status Credits.

As I said, based on my experience and multiple others, you don’t need to meet the criteria in all four months to get the 250 SCs, just one of the four months.

Have you had the statement for month 2 yet?

If yes:
- What was credited to your Velocity account?
- Did you get the 25K points for month 2 plus about 2,500 std points earn (based on $3800 x 0.66). If your std points earn was significantly less than that then it may be that your spend was not on eligible transactions (e.g govt related spend does not qualify).

If you haven’t had the statement for month 2 yet, wait and see what happens, and let us know!

My experience is that points (std or otherwise) hit the Velocity act fairly promptly when the statement is generated.

Havent had the second months statement yet, will report back when I do.

Not sure if I mentioned earlier, but I wen for the cheap Virgin card only two months at 1,500/mth.

Chasing the Status Credits not the velocity points.

Ah. I was confused by the reference to two months… I’ve just realised the Virgin Money offer has changed at some point. While the Velocity promo was on, it was 25k points over 4 months’ spend across either version of the card. Now it’s 80/60 over 2 months.

Is that the deal you signed up for? If so, I actually don’t think you’ll get the Velocity bonus as it’s not the same offer as the one that was available in March when the VFF promo was running. The line item when the bonus posts will be different.

@smaberly I think this also means you wouldn’t get the Velocity bonus on the Virgin Money card if you applied for it now. Maybe it might work on one of the other cards that was part of the offer, if they’re still running the same card promo as they were in March.

I went for the 250 status credits on the Virgin Australia Velocity Card.

I went for the same card, and also didn't make the spend target in the first month (due to not receiving the card prior to leaving on holiday). I had thought that the first statement period would commence from when I activated the card, but it appears to have been from when it was approved and they applied the annual fee. Unfortunately I think I have missed out on the bonus SCs because of this.
Will be interested to hear your outcome.

Have just been on the phone to virgin money as I had issues with registering (whole other story). I too signed up for the status credits with the $64 first year fee card. When on the line I asked about the delay in using the card and if that will affect the status credits and was told no, that all I need to do is have a purchase in the first 90 days.

You may want to call to confirm your situation. The website said they are experiencing high call demand but I waited all of 2-3 to have my call answered.

Thanks Zaccy, will give ‘em a call.
