4-class 747 operating QF7/QF8 - how much longer?

So does anyone have any info when the last 4 class 747 gets refitted?
Only 9 of the 744 that had first class were to be refitted, but the remaining six of those that had 4 class seating were to be retired.

AFAIK, the last such retirement would be 2014 - I'm thinking South Africa, South America would be the last to lose First.

For what it is worth my flight out to Buenos Aires in Feb was on a refitted aircraft....the flight back wasn't.

Thanks for that Serfty.hopefully that means next year 1 more time for F on the 747.Will give it a fitting farewell if it comes to pass.

3E/F are "1st" only if 4E/F also exist.

16A/B is upper deck exit row on the old 4 class configuration, on the new configuration 16 A/B do not exist and the upper deck exit seats are 14A/B/J/K.

I'm flying MEL-LAX-JFK then DFW-BNE-MEL in late July/ early August.

Originally going over it was 4 class and we had 1A and 1F - I was looking forward to it as I've never flown F in the 744. Three weeks later 2 extra seats had appeared in row 1 and we were on a refit :( Have now selected back row upstairs.

The good news was that shortly afterwards QF announced that LAX-JFK would be changing back to a 744 so we've now got 1A and 1F for that leg! Only 5 hours but better than nothing!

We originally got the 4 class config on QF7 early May so was able to snag 39JK, however not long ago it changed to a 3 class & we were reassigned seats in row 48 however we've since changed that to the 2 seats on the side towards the back of the a/c. Hope that won't adversel affect us getting through customs for our connecting AA flight to MIA.

We have about 3.5 hours connecting time & although the QF & AA flights are in separate pnrs we will ask at checkin to have them checked to MIA which they will do as all One World airlines. There are still 2 or 3 other DFW/MIA flights after that to fall back on.

I think it's probably wise to assume you will get a 3 class but check regularly so if it is changed you've got notice to change your seat if you don't like what's been reassigned to you. If we hadn't checked we wouldn't have been able to snag two seats on the side as they get snapped up quite quickly.

Are the new business seats now on all QF8 flights? I have the option of QF8 or QF94.. Departing from MCI and trying to get to SYD in December so QF8 would be a quicker option if no stopover... Thoughts?

As all of the ER Versions of the 747 have been refurbished, you will have the Skybed MkII.
