I have already placed the order.

One con is that Vodaphone will carry through a credit check on your Equifax credit file.

For me, the benefits greatly outweight the negatives!
Yeah I was wondering about that but it’s a decent amount of points.

What’s the Equifax credit file? Is that a specific credit file?

What's the specific risk?
People need phones? Do credit providers seriously look negatively on someone with a phone?

Just thought I would mention Vodaphone make an enquiry.

When i signed up to my OPTUS 24 month plan , i saw later they had made an enquiry on my credit report/file. Not sure why they would want this to be honest.

Voda are extending finance to customers by giving them a phone that they pay off in installments. They do a credit check, otherwise you'd have insolvent teenagers ordering brand new iphones on 24 month contracts they can't afford.

Not much of a challenge for anyone else to pass the credit check, providing no bankruptcies or major defaults, but the credit check will lower your credit score (for a short period) and make it harder to get other finance such as Credit Cards.

Yep I get that bit.

What I don't get is how another credit provider would look at your credit report, see Vodafone, and somehow make a bazaar assessment on your creditworthiness based on that?

Sure if you default... but the simple enquiry on your file... i can't see it limiting your credit with any serious provider.

This is why credit agencies exist - as an aggregator for all of the various credit information. They'll just lower your score for any credit enquiry for a period of time as a general measure of how much credit you're applying for over a given period of time. There are many sources of credit - utilities accounts and mobile providers, companies like afterpay and zippay, credit cards, LOCs, home loans, car loans, personal loans etc.

This isn't going to get the average punter denied credit but in the current climate it can easily get you denied for a Credit Card if you've been active in applications recently and that could mean only getting 40K for this when you could have got 100K for a CC, so in that regard it can cost you.

I can foresee the points not posting before the need to cancel to keep this to the $74!

Submitted order and only conditionally approved, even with the lowest phone as per article, booo. Will have to call them tomorrow if they don't call me first.

Credit check hit as well.

I've applied for myself and wife, both approved.

I think there is significant risk of vodafone running out of these cheap phones before all orders are fulfilled as the deal is at the sweet spot of cost, effort and reward.

Got same response, followed by an email a few hours later

“Unfortunately, we can't process your order as you're not eligible for a device plan. However, you can sign up to one of our SIM Only Plans”
