It has now posted to my UK AMEX.

How do you connect your Amex card to TripAdvisor? By storing your credit card details on TripAdvisor?

You link the AMEX app to your TA account. You can disconnect once the funds have posted (which I have done).

Not that desperate for $5 credit. The less information about me on the internet the better.

Re: $5 Statement Credit for Connecting Your AmEx Card to TripAdvisor and Posting a Re

I think it is worth to notify them that any promotion should not be treated as purchase, any credit from promotion should has no reflect about your MR account, their logical is totally wrong.

i don't even know if i should call them up to get this one resolved. the promotional credit is worth more than the points they deducted, and calling them up will take up more time than i can spare.

i think the logic of deducting point wasn't thought out well when they programmed their points system (technology), because the system would just deduct points automatically for any credits you receive. i noticed on my last trip, points deducted for the tourist refund scheme.

Just log a request via secure mail - always sorted out pretty quickly and without fuss.

Warning!!

For those who have received your credit in your account, please check with your points balance, AMEX take 5 points away from your balance as well, as they treat that credit as a refund.

I checked my balance and they didn't take it away from mine ;)

Re: $5 Statement Credit for Connecting Your AmEx Card to TripAdvisor and Posting a Re

$5 credit posted quickly, and just as quickly the -5 MR points. I have emailed them to return the 5 points. It might be petty on my behalf, but there is a principle here.

Re: $5 Statement Credit for Connecting Your AmEx Card to TripAdvisor and Posting a Re

Thanks for the notification, but no thanks. I read the full T&Cs; not keen to be bugged with yet more 'offers' or to have a card linked to a travel site (and its Google owned, remember ..... no Privacy, anyone?).

I use TA a lot and post reviews, but there's little incentive for me to give card details to this lot.

Got $5 off too - woot!

5 MR points deduction ... hmmm ... I can live with that!

My MR account was manually adjusted overnight, and my 5 points returned. The email I received indicated that they were aware of the problem and were working on a permanent solution to prevent it occuring in the future.

That's been the bog standard response for some time now...

Yep just like my 'have asked for merchant to be reclassified' (where bonus points are missed because the system doesn't credit them properly)

I present to you a tin foil hat :)

I am with John on this. Squandering your privacy for a measly $5 isn't worth it imo and it is only a one off for your first post. I have posted 14 reviews on TA in the past month and even if paid $5 for each one I would still be circumspect.

I would be far more worried about handing over your credit card in a restaurant!

I don't let my card leave my sight when paying, always paying at the POS. That aside do you really think so?

Big company such as TA with your details and tens of thousands of other credit cards - Fraud not going to happen
Low paid workers with a shiny Platinum credit card in their hand and the ability to take it out of your sight for up to 10 minutes - High risk!

I do prefer to pay at the counter too actually, but in some restaurant it's not always an easy option, although telling them you have to use a PIN helps
