50000 Bonus Points for new eligible Car or Home Insurance

Still looking at changing over to Qantas Car Insurance as it is cheaper than my current insurer and many others - but my current policy isn't up until the end of May.

I'm also not going to change policies early as my current policy is around 60% the price of any new ones now. If the offer was for say, 100k bonus points then maybe I'd consider ending it early, but for up to 20k it's not worth it.

I can see that the current offer is up to 20k points and ends on 22/04.

I assume that if I sign-up before 22/04 and have my policy start at the end of May (with the charge to then be made then), that I'd still be eligible for up to 20k points considering I signed up before the promo ended even despite the service not being active until EOM May?

I would then obviously turn off / call up to request to turn off auto-renew etc.

Yes. I signed up my car insurance before 5 Dec (for the 50K offer) but the insurance start date was 7 January 2024. I still get my 50K bonus points.

EDIT: I am still waiting for the 60 days before the bonus points landed. Got confused with my bonus points for home insurance.

You could also renew your current policy, or go with another insurer until QF has another 50k bonus. I've always been able to get refunds for the portion of a year unused.

Just got my 22K points for my 3rd insurance where I signed up before 5 Dec, but insurance didn't start until 7 January 2024. It is 22K and not 50K because my premium was like just over $850, rather than $1550 for 50K bonus.

Qantas has now updated the promo. Now it is up to 30000 Qantas points per Car/Home insurance, join by 28 May.

Thankyou, I did also see this but I've now got my renewal with AAMI - my renewal is almost 50% cheaper than Qantas Car Insurance.

Had it been 10-20% or the same price - no question, I'd move to Qantas, but not for 50% more - even if it comes with up to 30k points.

I've also just had a look at Qantas Home Insurance - it's 2x what my renewal with RACV is.

As much as more QFF points will help towards my next (after this year's trip) trip, it's not worth it when it's 50% more for my car insurance and 100% more for my home insurance!

The most I'd go for is Red Energy's Qantas Red Saver Plan as my current plan with Origin is coming up and Red Energy's pricing will be significantly cheaper than the new plan with my current provider.

Mrs excel had an email today with a combined price promotion:

Save 15% on your first year’s premium when you take out a Qantas Car Insurance policy online.^

Save 15% on your first year’s premium when you take out a Qantas Home Insurance policy online, plus another 15% when you combine home and contents.^

Plus, you'll earn up to 30,000 Qantas Points* for every car or home policy you take out by 28 May.

I have a need to take out a policy soon so will compare but am not expecting the price to be the best available.

The Qantas car insurance plan was $100 more for slightly less coverage vs my previous insurers renewal offer (not exactly apples to apples comparison, some give some take, but overall more restrictive). Decided this wasn't worth the 10k points or so it would have given.

Minimum annual premium of over $1,550 for these policies. About 30% more than my house insurance, 100% more than my car insurance and 300% than my landlord insurance.

However, points awarded based on premium after 60 days, so by paying monthly and starting low and changing just before the 60 day mark, then cancelling immediately, it might be worth it. A lot of sums to do and eyes on it though.

I do wonder at the wisdom of posting advice on how to exploit loopholes on an open forum. If too many people do that, the loopholes can close really quickly.
Well this particular loophole has been open for quite a while now, ie not ‘really quickly’.

Even if it's with information that's already widely published here and elsewhere? You're overestimating the attractiveness of this promo.

Most people want points for toaster or gift cards. Recently I know several people who won 500,000 Everyday reward points (as part of the 10,000 points for travel insurance promo) and simply banked them for $2500 of shopping at Woolworths... :(

That would have been 250k QFF, or nearly enough for a return J to Europe :(

This one, you are going to spend $260 or $390 for 20/30/50k of points

It's borderline worth it, unless using the points for a J flight on QF

That being said I do both my car and home every year or so with this offer and only keep the policies for a few months.

I missed the 50k, didn't bother for 20k but will for 30k

Cost of living pressures is pretty much the "it" thing now.

$2,500 worth of groceries, depending on your family size, will be weeks / months worth and some would find it more beneficial to spend on necessities over luxuries.

That, or the average person wouldn't know how to redeem reward seats / there's not much availability.
