7 into 72 does go.

MH123 to SYD took off as planned. As it was close to midnight I curled up and went to sleep in my throne. On the MH A330-300s the J seats are 1-2-1 alternating with 1-2-2. So every second row has a single seat between the footwells of the two seats behind it. Hence the term ‘throne’.

I skipped dinner but the VLML (Vego special meal) breakfast was an omelette with potatoes, spinach and cherry tomatoes.

We landed about 35 minutes early and headed straight to the gate.

Who am I kidding? Of course we didn’t. We sat on the tarmac for about 50 minutes waiting for every other aircraft to come and go so actually ended up being 25 minutes late. MH, you are too damn polite!

I zipped through immigration and customs to find I had set a new personal record. The plane door opened at 1027 and I was in fresh air at 1032. Five minutes! It did help that we ended up at gate 35 which wasn’t a long walk to immigration.

A short wait for the transfer bus and I was soon sitting in the domestic J lounge sipping a coffee.

I am now aboard my last flight of this crazy turn. QF441 to MEL left a little late as the arriving plane was a little late. But only ten minutes. A long taxi and then we were airborne at 1235.

Oh, I debated what to put on my immigration card for ‘country you spent most time’. I went with Malaysia even though I never entered the country. The auto process when I got back to AU never skipped a beat so I guess it hadn’t twigged that I hadn’t entered any other country.

Well that’s it. I have landed in MEL and am taxiing to the gate. The CSM saw my MH BP and noted that I had “had a long day”. She didn’t know the half of it! 🤣 Just on 20,000 miles.

Soon I will be in my car and trundling home. Thanks for reading my quick and dirty trip report. Time to give my thumbs a rest. 👍

Good to hear you had a smooth turnaround at ICN.

back in the days when Cathay Pacific had super cheap business class fares from South Korea I had to do a couple of i mediate turns, but I had to collect bags :( Immigration and customs did not like that at all and I was pulled aside for some pretty intense questioning. They couldn’t understand why I would be arriving and returning on the same plane!

I’m tired just reading this let alone actually doing it. Good on you and thanks for letting us ride along with you.
Ditto. I thought after JT's previous mammoth effort, doing the old QF9/new QF10 MEL-LHR return on the same weekend (Edit: I forgot to mention it was in Y) was madness, but Jess has just set a new benchmark.
