I'm interested to know what other members think of row 1 on a 737 compared to other seats...

Personally I find the leg room in row 1 less than a standard economy seat due to the bulkhead and the recline is such that I'm at an angle that is uncomfortable... A little more recline would be near perfect.

So row 1 - the system always tries to allocate me there but I always move to row 2 or 3. Today I got bumped from 2C to 1C on a full flight. Legroom is a serious issue for me (hence why I fly biz where possible).

What are your thoughts on row 1?

I don't fly J on a 737 too often, and I'm not exactly possessed of long legs (:)), but I have flown rows 1 and 2 on a QF 737, and prefer row 2. I'm not a big fan of bulkhead seats in general, though I'm sure there would be exception configs out there.

1C you can always stretch out to the right a bit. more room there.

I agree this is not really business class but is reality!

I like row 1 in dom J in general (738 included) as you do not have anyone reclining onto you.

I was in row 3 in J on a dom 332 a few weeks ago and the person in front reclined so I could not see the seat back TV properly (or at all). I would have been better off in Y.

I'm a row 1 person too, used to be row 2 only, but being allocated row 1 when im in J all the time now, I love it.

Also the fact no one reclining onto you is a bonus.

row 1 every time. i like the window and i find i can still get out without the person beside me having to get up. I much prefer not having anyone reclining on me.

1A whenever possible for me, sometimes 1K for a bit of variety.

1. No one can recline onto you.
2. In 1A you generally get served first so no chance of missing out on any meal choices and no need to gulp food down fast on short sectors. My daughter did an unaccompanied minor status run a while back and had to sit in the last row of J - she commented that she got served her meal just as the plane commenced descent.
3. I like looking out the window.

At 6' row 1 is fine for me just.

Maybe 1D/F on the 734's with the extra 15cm with the cutout.

I suggest you get an entry into your profile regarding the issue you have with 737 row 1.

Just came back from OOL - SYD - MEL in row one. Last time for me. The legroom was not the problem but the TV screen was that big it was hard to focus and we had to look across the aisle at the other one.

benefit is that you do get served first.

Pluses and minuses etc

Row 1 is fine for me, just overhead space is a bit iffy at times.

Perhaps talk to your doctor about having a section of leg removed. :?:

Row 2 for me. I typically have a rollaboard and a small backpack with me. The rollaboard goes in the overhead and I like to have my backpack under the seat in front. Call me OCD but I like to have everything I need to hand without getting up to the overhead locker.

I'm 6'3'' and when flying J on a 73H, I have go to for row 2. I even go for row 3 ahead of row 1. Row 1 is just too squashy, particularly when the main reason I fly J is for the leg room.

At 1.85 cm I find the first row ok, if I was any taller it would be uncomfortable. Also part of the lockers above row 1 seems to be taken up with equipment. So row 2 an be a good choice.

If you get one of the modern 737s with personal video screens often row 3 can be good. Some 737s have seat back screens in business, if you get one of these then you can get someone behind you tapping away at the touch screen all flight. But because row 4 has screens on an arm then row 3 will have no one tapping their seat.

Having said that the Jetconnect 737s seem to have their business video screens all on arms, which is different from the Qantas mainline 737s.

6'4"/193cm here.

I like having no-one recline into me in row 1. When alone I go for C or D as you can use the aisle when needed.

For longer flights its a real toss-up leg room vs no recliners.

To those who don't like ppl reclining into them.

The recline on these aircraft doesn't affect legroom and rows 2-3 are also more private.

1C for me always.

I'm the same height as trippin_the_rift and I would agree there is more leg room in rows 2 & 3.

I like row 1 as no one can recline into me. The recline may not affect your leg room, but try and get out to use the bathroom. Especially if you are in A or F if someone in C or D has reclined.

I will gladly sacrifice that small amount of leg room to ensure this never happens.
