Would have just done online check-in and boarded with wrong name. They only check ID if you check a bag in at the desk...so could have done bag drop instead!

My kid was only an year at that time and hence I could not have taken the chance.

hi all, just thought I'd provide an update on my original issue.
I contacted @madrooster and using his travel agent magic, he was able to get SQ and VA to talk to each other and we got the name fixed.
They couldn't change the original booking, so a replacement reward booking was made for my son, with all the same details/points/cost/class, except now with the correct name. Thanks to @madrooster for your help with this issue. What a great outcome.

Great outcome, and shows how valuble this community is to all of us, being new to this forum it also confirms even at my age its never to late to learn from others mistakes and how they worked through things to resolve.

Threaten to leave your child with the check-in agent and tell them that you will collect him/her when you fly back in
