A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

One of your issues is no doubt the fact that you're transiting two regions, not one: Asia 2 (KUL) and the Middle East (DOH). If you were flying Australia-DOH-Europe on QR you wouldn't have an issue with one award.
Yes,that's what the last CSR i spoke to said - looks like the Doha Exception, is not really an exception, in that it still counts the Middle East as a region, as you are allowed to transit through Asia to get to Europe.

I asked the CSR to cost out a QTR Mel-doh-lhr ticket and it was still 85,000 pts, so the that hasn't changed, I just cant find any availability on QTR (or Qant cough for that matter).
 
Have a one way redemption and just looking at maybe dropping the last segment SEA-ANC. I'd have to be HLO, but is there any downside to making destination SEA, not ANC (still USA).

Other than not going to ANC, then no.

However, since you have bags and are concerned about short checking, you can drop a 'domestic' segment from your itinerary FOC by calling AAdvantage.

Anyone booked a Syd-Per flight as a combination of SYD-MEL-PER with a <24hr stopover in MEL?

Or something similar?

It's not possible. PER-SYD on one award is only possible on a direct flight. Anything indirect, even as just a transit in MEL or ADL for example, is classed as two awards.
 
Hi all, looking for business class rtn flights to US 1pax (lax or san fran or Atlanta- march 2017 using AA points,my 40th birthday present to my self. Found flight there .(milesaver)but no return. Want to use minimum points if possible (like everyone else I guess).

How do you look for partner flights using AA points?BA site wont work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Don't really want to fly on the more unknown airlines if that makes sense. So Qantas ,CX, AA or something like that.

You'll have to call AA to book partner awards. you can search via the Qantas booking engine, JAL mileage bank, or BA. You'll probably get better results searching sector by sector and piecing together an itinerary, but it might be expensive depending on how many awards you need (it will be at least two awards from the USA to Australia if you don't get a non-stop transpac on either AA or QF).

Options - plenty of them. Japan airlines via Tokyo, Cathay via Hong Kong. Etihad. There aren't really any 'unknown' airlines in oneworld, save maybe for S7 airlines.

Once you have found your flights booking is usually pretty quick and the assistance fee is waived because you can't do the booking on line.

JAL will replace 777-300ER with 787-9 from March 26 so no more first class for SYD-NRT. I have F booking LHR-HND NRT-SYD in June and wonder if anybody had a similar experience before. Not sure if there will be any compensation from JAL since it's not close to departure date. Will AA let me change or cancel without paying a fee? Thanks

AA will let you change free of charge - the ticket you purchased is no longer able to be completed.

Compensation will likely not come from JAL... your ticket will be reissued to reflect business class, not first. As far as JAL are concerned when you front up they will see 'business class' and give you a business class BP (nothing for them to compensate you for). Ask AA what your options are for a partial downgrade, but as awards are usually priced at the highest class of service I'm not sure how far you will get. I have had downgrades on CX (award issued by AA) and nothing was forthcoming, but those were short flights.

I think we will just accept it as it's difficult now to get F from Europe for 2 persons in June. We are leaving from BCN as well.

Yes - that's possible and consistent with some other airlines. CX for example will give you cash at the airport if they downgrade on the day from an aircraft with F to one without. That's because you turn up with a F class ticket.

For changes made in advance the ticket has already been reissued in business. JL would probably have little idea you had originally paid F.

Thanks grussellt. QR doesn't seem to have a published fare for BCN-LHR-DOH-SYD but BCN-DOH-SYD and BCN-DOH leg is J only. We could make our way to LHR but unfortunately, we aren't flexible anymore and hardly any DOH-SYD left. When we were booking this, BCN-DOH-SYD was available. If I had known JL would give up F on this route, I would have booked QR instead. We were happy to transfer from HND to NRT because of first class as well.
 
Anyone know why I didn't earn any points or a segment with this short flight?

I've been trying to find a definitive answer on this but am not sure of the situation. I have 277K miles that are due to expire in July 2017. To stop that happening I can either use or earn miles.

Due to a medical condition I don't think I will be able to use any miles by that date. Is purchasing more miles regarded as 'earning'?

Are there any quick and easy ways to earn some miles that will extend the life of those that I have by another 18 months?

yes, buying miles is an activity. You can buy the minimum amount of 1000 and extend their life

or you can do free e-surveys and transfer to AA, it'll take you several surveys to get the minimum 2000 points = 500 AA miles and you can transfer the 500 miles to your account and thus will solve your problem

i transferred over some Carlson Club Points to AA which extended the life of my miles too
