if you're routing through DOH does it have to be QR metal to get the thru mileage price? or could it be e.g. QR-BA (from Aus to Europe)

Yes, from what I’ve read, transit via Doha has to be on Qatar on both legs for it to count as one award.

I thought the Doha exception was that it had to be QR/QR at least into and out of DOH. Or have the rules changed recently?

My apologies, diningdecadence. I was basing my statement on South Pacific to Europe via Asia 1/Asia 2 being permitted on mixed carriers but I'll defer to MEL_Traveller and potm on this one.

BA flts booked through AA award - how does one go about selecting seats please?
Would be interested in the same info for Malaysian.
J and F have never had to pay BA seat selection on AA award for international travel
Thats interesting, I went through the process above but gave up because a fee was shown on BA and didnt want to pay up for a J seat.

I'm not sure that is true. I remember paying for seat selection in 2015 for an AA award in J on BA SIN>LHR>BIO.

edit, just found the receipt it was SGD 179.30.

And no status with QF? BA even charges their own Exec Club members seat selection fees unless they have status.

There was an AFF article about this issue a few months ago, member redeemed AA miles for travel on BA and was charged: British Airways Seat Selection Fees Under Fire
Well I have gold status with QF but given it's the AA frequent flyer no BA would not know about my QF status
