I remember having to cross the harbour in heavy fog from Devonport to the city on my way to school in winter time, and he old "double ender" ferries having go slow and use fog horns. It often meant I cut it fine for the train to otahuhu.

On the Dames recent trip to Shanghai. Lasted 24 hours with continual fog horns. And QM2 has a very long fog horn.
