A message from Alan Joyce, Qantas CEO

I would see it as a cynical PR move if he did the whole whY check in.

Sure it helps to understand the coal face (our leaders listen in to customer service calls) but anything more I feel isn't often honest.

I agree with you, going through the whY check in process is pointless...and as you say would only be viewed as a PR stunt.

The real value is in sincere contact with staff and customers that might lead to process improvements.

Fair point.

Conceded ;)

1/ yes I agree it would be good if he does take the time to walk the whole aircraft.

2/ at the risk of being controversial, I think that there are a great many people on this board that look down on those who are not WP or SG.
I wouldn't expect it to be any different for Alan Joyce.

What would it achieve?

Well for starters it might be informative for him when deciding on the required level of check-in staff.

Secondly, it might be informative when it comes to making decisions on the benefits levels for QP or PS.

(and yes, I realise QP and PS can still priority checkin for international flights).

Lastly, you are right, one way to increase the perception of benefits for those with status, is to purposely devalue the experience for those without status.

I don't think anyone would expect a CEO to join the back of the check-in queue of his own airline, but a meet-and-greet along the line of the great unwashed before being handed his boarding pass by one of his "butlers" and sauntering off the the First Lounge - now that would take balls!

Anyway - the stunt is to declare that he is perfectly comfortable with the safety of the QF A380 fleet, not that he is perfectly comfortable with economy class.

And you are holding back from us, aren't you dfcatch? You haven't told us if and when you received your personal message from Alan Joyce and whether any of your friends did and what status they were and what travel you had planned and at least a thousand other items of trivia that we are all waiting with baited breath to hear.

That was sarcasm, BTW. I say this because you can never be sure about the sophistication of the average contributor, so it pays to be crystal clear about these things.

Well he was shown on the ABC news tonight and one pax in Y asked if he could be moved up the front. A big smile from Alan but no upgrade.

Still it can't have hurt to ask and on a day like today you never know your luck in a big aeroplane.

Probably the fact th flight was full had more to do with it than anything.

Joyce is the type of guy who is happy sitting in economy

Just checking my facebook and QF has announced the takeoff of QF 13 SYD-SIN-LHR  Unsurprisingly the comments are unflattering

Update: twitter from QF Media also has the same mistake.

Ha ha, I received Alan's email on Tuesday while i was sitting in the SYD F lounge :)

Although it wasn't personalized except for the addressee and the points balance (which was 3 weeks old).

I assumed it went out to everyone. If I was QF, I'd want to trumpet to the world that the A380 was going to be back in the air.

Oh, and future travel is another 2 upcoming SYD-LAX whY trips.

Good man - now I can get some sleep!

looks like he talked to pretty much everyone on the flight and was over the PA as well...

Not sure if I would want that much noise over the PA...
