A politicians view of qantas ( he goes on a bit, but worth the read)

I love this bloke. He's like a little energiser bunny getting his finger prints on everything.....he's spread thinner than my kid's morning Vegemite on toast

A good mate of mine did some time working for the senate. They were less than complementary about the senator, in particular the difference between the public and not so public face.

Will admit I voted for him, mainly because I try to avoid major parties in the upper house. That was a great move because the whole country gets to experience him.

He makes that old bloke from Tasmania, Senator, BRIAN HARRADINE, (remember him) look effective & knew what he was doing  That's not an easy task but the little bugger has pulled it off.

Sure where can we do that? I am sure QF has received new planes but in what numbers/ratio compared to JQ? THere has been debate on these pages of new 787's being diverted from QF to JQ, did I misunderstand?
My own experience, I have flown A LOT of domestic flights over 2 years and have not had a new QF plane EVER! If they are making money from the domestic division they should be reinvesting in it.

The 787 is the only one diverted to JQ, exchanging back the A330's.

QF have received in the last 12 months:

A330 on domestic ops - I've flown on both
B737's new ones being delivered As we speak, current ones being upgraded.
A380's on international ops

The only ones that have no movement are the 767's. Except for retiring them. Had they re fitted them out when the delays on the 787's were known then we'd have new interiors.

This quote came out of the AGM thread. Just looking through sources to see orders since December last year.
Fleet - 80 planes in last three years of which 60% have gone to Qantas not Jetstar. International has 38% of the capital of the business tied up in it.

Aircraft age - avg qantas age has come down last few years - now below most global legacies. purchases over next few years will bring it down further to 9.5

Aircraft fleet - spirited defence given as to why qantas hasn't ever ordered a 777. Basically not every aircraft suits every airline and need to keep simple fleets. In 1995 the, first 777-200 wouldn't make syd-lax so ordered 747er instead. In early 2000s ordered the A380 instead as seeing impact of slot congestion at lhr and lax. More recently ordered 787 over 777 as newer aircraft with lower costs. First Qantas group delivery 2013.
From what I can see 4x A380 since the 17th of December 2010, (No comparison in JQ Group)
330's EBO and EBP were delivered in December 2010, (EBR and EBQ delivered in same time period for JQ Group)
8 x 737's to QF Domestic and 5 x 737 to Jet Connect. (4 x 320's to 3K).
I am aware that this is only a brief timeline, but it does show that aircraft over the last 12 months did go to both groups. These rates may change in the next 12 months with the delaying of the 380's and the first arrivals of the 787.

Senator Xenophon Speech in Parliament - Hansard 23Aug11

Snip lots of stuff

If the Senator (who I appreciate is protected to some extent by Parliamentary Privilege) is factually correct in his allegations - have any accountancy or corporation laws been broken here? Has the Qantas Sale Act been breached in any way?

I personally agree with the sentiments of the Senator, but if everything is above board from a legal perspective - gotta say it's very clever management, even if it's not quite morally correct .. :!:

Don't we have to look back more that 12 months to answer this question. How old is jetstar? 7 years? Personally it is hardly good news to say that qantas is getting the old cast off A330s that were diverted to jetstar when new. I recall someone here say that the A330 are now due some sort of major maintenance check. Are they going back to qantas just in time for jetstar to not have to pay for that check? If so that seems to be a neat way to get qantas to pay for jetstar's maintenance. It is not good to say the new 787 that was supposed to go to qantas is being diverted to jetstar. Top that off with the delays to delivering the A380.

All this paints a pretty clear picture that qantas is the second child that gets to wear the cast offs from jetstar.

IIRC the A330's JQ got from QF initially. The two delivered last year are brand new. Aircraft cycle around. If they have a cabin refresh, how are you to know how old they are or where they have been?

I don't know. But then plenty on here seem to think they can tell the age of the virgin A330s.

The 330's apart from the last two came from QF.
The EK 330's are pretty rough, so a once over won't do much for them. They were kind of similar (especially in Y) to the regional CX.

Was there not a thread on here showing how an interior refit could help spruce up the 767's and perhaps how the roo should take note?
