a potential quick way (rather cheap) up the status levels with QFF

So i have been doing some research as to get to the next level of status with QFF

Im currently Bronze and just got my 16K reward for my ANZ FF card (I'm rather new to all this - and excited) and after a while of playing around saw that Jetstar does the normal Friday Fare Frenzy and this includes $9 fares a lot, they also have the 'Plus' bundle option which then gets you QFF points and SC - for $15 extra

From my emails i can see that its mostly MEL - NTL that have the $9 fares and if my calculations are correct it will take 15 round trips (up and back in the same day) and you will gain enough SC to go to the next level

Not bad for a total of $720 and an extra 30,000 points, obviously it will be a bit draining to do so but for someone who wants to get to that next level so when they do proper INTL flights with QF get a % bonus on future points

Let me know people is this a good find or does someone out there have an even better idea?

I've never actually though of using the dirt cheap fares as a bit of a status grab. I guess for $9 + $15 it's fairly good value. If you had a free day that would otherwise be spent doing nothing, a quick day return with some QP time beforehand wouldn't be a bad way to spend it.

exactly my thoughts - i could spend more than the $48 for the round trip on beers at the pub and doing this people can actually benefit from it

Problem is, for me anyway, PS is not really worth having or not worth that amount of money anyway, you'd have to spend the same amount again to get to SG which would then get you entry to QP... PS will only get you a few paltry benefits which may be of value to you, I'm not sure, or else you could go spend not much more than $720 and just buy a QP membership and get access to Aust QPs and some ACs and rapidly shrinking number of BA lounges, bit of extra baggage and a few other things... Up to you but to get to PS it might be a cheapish way if you have 15 days to spend if you can only go up and back once in a day... Is the flight back the same price as the flight up???

Often those really cheap Jetstar specials are limited to certain times on certain days (Tuesday, Wednesnay and Saturday). Which is fine if you are free on those days. And sometimes they can be asymmetric, that is cheap one direction but normal fare in the reverse direction.

no real reason to get to silver but being young i think that gaining silver and potentially going up the ranks will be a good thing and to have a decent status by the time i reach 30 (when i foresee myself doing the bulk of my flying).

i mainly posted as an idea cause some one might want to do it and i think its better as you need 300SC to get to silver and a return MEL - LHR flight in discount economy will only get you 120SC and cost you nearly 1.5K

As nice as it sounds to work your way up, in the end, status resets every year. So there's no point earning status for later use, unless it's going to be within the same year.

As NTL is my home airport, the one thing I do know is that you can guarantee that if you tried to do 15 round trips from MEL to NTL at least 50% of them will be cancelled!!! It's a very common occurrence. Also, no QP at NTL and the airport is 25 mins out of the city - so not the airport you want to spend a lot of time at.

But OP is only aiming for PS so not an issue. BTW I think advance seat selection and priority check in are benefits well worth having. In terms of value the ramp up from SG to WP strikes me as the least valuable one, although I'd rate being further up the pecking order for international upgrades very highly!

Even say open air at budget airport parking is $22, still almost doubling the cost.

Similarly with public transport, to and from the CBD with airtrain is going to add in $31, $32 with Coachtrans.

You can catch the Brisbane Council bus to Airport Village/DFO and then catch the free terminal bus from there.

Mind you if it is just a day trip you might as well just park at DFO.

Agreed on the parking... here in MEL it's $29 to park at the long term bus. Plus still have to get their.. (~1hr for me) Public transport... will run close to the same. While great in theory you really have to analyze the cost. Great thinking by the OP though.

Probably have trouble parking at Toombul but there are other places to catch the bus from, could even catch a bus to Toombul. There is also a bus that comes up from the south side from Mt Gravatt through Carindale. 590

I don't think that there are any problems parking at DFO as the staff park at the rear anyway. Also there is much more there now than just DFO. If you left it overnight would possibly be an issue. There is also parking at the novotel. Have a look at Google earth there are a lot of parks there.

I just had a look at the site again and it appears that you can get one free airtrain trip as long as you have a receipt from DFO.
