Thanks to the OP for the idea.

If you need a cheeky - less than 100SC's - to get you to the next level and were prepared for a couple of quick and quite possible dirty trips, it maybe the answer.

The 702 Airport bus delivers me to the terminal door at OOL. About the only advantage of flying in and out of OOL!

The other great way to rack up SC's is a Business Any Seat Reward fare between SYD & TSV (via BNE). If you take the minimum points option (48K) with cash ($211.59) you are well on your way to climbing the SC rungs!

For roughly the same costs, TSV-DRW makes more sense, but there are threads on JASAs.

Also look and compare the economy with discount econpmy - double the SC and FF points.

JQ business - although you pay the surcharge maybe another method.

The Jetstar Friday Feeding Frenzy is off and running again. MEL - NTL $19. Only 200 seats (actually 199, just bought mine). By the time you pay the SC surcharge and CC fee it worked out at $88 return. Still less than $5 / SC which is pretty good for a quicky!

Now I just have to find something to do in Newcastle for 4 hours on 16/5...

how many SC's you would earn for this trip ??

I'd rather grab a return to Auckland on LAN. The price fluctuates, but I did a trip for $800 last year (November) and earned 160 status credits in the process. I don't want to sound like a snob, but I'm not so desperate for status that I could be bothered to sit on Jetstar for all that time.

On another note, YAY first post/comment/reply or whatever we call it! :D

Just booked a JASA, BNE-SYD-AKL-MEL-BNE cost $250 & 88,000 points. Earns 260SC & 10,000 points.

I get to fly QF8 BNE-SYD in a 747 in F & then indulge at SYD Flounge for a few hours:mrgreen:

20 SCs for the return trip. Not many I know, but cheap.

Oh, Tues/Wed only 15-31/5.

JT

Not great value, you can get slightly cheaper with QF which includes a QP at every stop ex BNE.

As Q SG doing LAX/SFO/LAS/DFW/MIA/DFW on AA YUPP fare, should I make extra stops to increase status points?.

Yes. (*)

Did you expect a different answer? ;)

(*) Assuming:
  • extra stops are possible for the fare you're on
  • you have the time
  • you don't risk missed connections
  • you're not travelling with checked bags that may not make the connection
  • you're not travelling with a partner who doesn't understand your obsession
  • you're not allergic to hot nuts or fresh-baked cookies

  • extra stops are possible for the fare you're on (good which ones)
  • you have the time (spare day to travel)
  • you don't risk missed connections (no problem would book couple hours apart)
  • you're not travelling with checked bags that may not make the connection (have checked bags but would allow transit times)
  • you're not travelling with a partner who doesn't understand your obsession (she has it too)
  • you're not allergic to hot nuts or fresh-baked cookies (no.. only hot dogs and mayonnaise)

RE: Cheap parking at MEL for cheap day trips.

I sometimes park at one of the fast food restaurants in Mickleham Road (usually the Mc Donald's near the Tullamarine Freeway) and get the 901 bus from there to the airport. Of course this is not good if you don't have the time to muck around, but for a cheap day trip on Jetstar this seems perfect. The bus is effectively free if you already have a weekly/monthly/yearly Metcard or myki pass, but only costs the cost of a zone 2 daily or weekend saver if you don't. Often the driver will just wave you on and not bother about tickets as it's at the end of the route.

In the past I've also used the Coolaroo station car park, but the bus takes a lot longer from there. You could park in Broadmeadows too, but I wouldn't recommend that.

The other downside is that the airport bus stop is all the way down past T4 outside the freight terminals, so it's a bit of a hike from the main terminal especially if flying QF or JQ.

Wouldn't be cheap though if your car got towed for parking on private property?
