Alan Joyce was just interviewed on RN. Fran Kelly mentioned in the intro a seven-hour scenic flight around Australia taking in rock, reef, bridge etc. Didn't get picked up in the interview and nothing running in media yet. Does anyone know anything about this?

I heard this being discussed on the radio this morning here in Adelaide. It concerns me that Pilots aren't able to get their flying hours up as required so this might be a good idea.

Seen Taiwan and Korea do these on a shorter but more affordable flights.

Qantas is preparing one to depart Sydney and arrive back to Sydney 10th October for total flight time of 7 hours.

Do you guys think this will be booked out today when tickets go on sale noon.

IMO could be better SCs return considering I can see SYD-DRW return flights in November for same SCs for under $500 - but at least we're getting some unlike the Antarctica flights. I'm interested in doing it in Y+ but depends on if I am fast enough at 12pm.

Quite clever for QF to do this. I wonder if some of it is to retain a level of currency / proficiency of their pilots, but rather than just burn fuel and waste money, they're looking to offset the cost by having people pay to be on there. My calculations are that they will make ~$150k in revenue if all seats are sold at the price nominated.

What I find most interesting is that they are only selling 6 J seats but 24 W, suggesting that social distancing isn't the reason for lack of J seat sales. Wonder if that's because they will have VIPs / media or whether they'll be carrying a bunch of pilots to rotate through across the 7 hours???

P1 received an early booking offer for this in J.
$3787 / 250k FF points earns 10K points and 160 SC.
Don’t think I’ll bite.
I agree - for a seven hour flight that gets you back to where you started I wouldn't do it in J or W - too overpriced. But Y, I just might.

I reckon they'll be selling these seats in J too, but to P1's and the like.

Very clever publicity stunt to draw attention to the state border fiasco as well.

Anyone jumping on?

Looks interesting but only from Sydney isn't it? So would have to quarantine when coming home.

Nice Status Credits for some though.

I wish ADL would have one of these!
I am wasting my time, at the moment, watching other people's Youtube videos about flights!
Have to wait till Dec/Jan to see, if Aust dom borders will open, or will the state govt of each, keep keeping their borders shut, just to be safe.
Don't dare to make bookings, even to Qld, which for now, just needs a person to get the border pass, in case flights are cancelled.
So few 737 planes flying over ADL at the moment, very eerily quiet, sky noise wise.

Looks like Y+ and J are gone.

Tempting, but hard to justify after doing QF747

Nice way if you can use a DSC flight credit/Travel Money. Then only 3 flights to go to retain status.
From Important Information: The unique Great Southern Land scenic flight is available for new bookings only. Flight Credits or Qantas TravelPasses cannot be used to book this experience.

So, no using the money we are already holding of yours :)
