A seven-hour scenic flight around Australia ?

I wonder how they will deal with the inevitable requests from those in the inner seats to get a look out the windows? On Antarctic flights I think they have a formal seat rotation, or at least swap time, but I haven't seen it for this flight?

If I'm in J window (or even whY window) and not looking out, I'd like to be comfortably reclined and sipping a wine, in my seat.

Won't be happening.

To their credit it's not buried in fine print - it's right there on the front page:

It looks like they blocked out the middle section in Y and Y+ - probably to assist with social distancing as much as making sure pax aren't moving around

Pent-up Demand
....

So to speculate

the trick now would be to work out dates for other cities... at 150 PAX, there must be scope for more

Plus Given the 787 capability, a 12 hour flight is doable but prob not at a low enough price..... something like Kangaroo Island, Pink Lakes, Wave Rock. Monkey Mia, Kimberley Coast, Uluru, Burke & Wills, Longreach, Torres straight, Great Barrier Reef, Great Dividing Range, river Murray....
Quick whiz out to Lord Howe island ?

Even a PNG OR NZ Flyover wouldnt be out of the question ?

Some great ideas there! Qld residents can travel within Qld atm yes?

Could see there be demand for a 787 flying from Brissie to Cairns & Perth to Broome with a Hotel 2 night Package.
Even temp loyal QF Darwin resident with a wide
body flight to Cairns or down to Adelaide.

I work in recruitment and we’re organising large number of trades from Brissie for a Port Pirie shut now & in November.

Selling out in 10 mins..... I’ll doubt this will be the one and only flight like this .
This idea got me daydreaming..... I can imagine a similiar flight 7+ hour flight time ex MEL : flying over Wilson’s Prom, King Islsnd, down the tassie Coast to Bruny island, across the west side of Tassie to Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers NP , travelling west to Kangaroo island, then potentially up to Uluru + Kata Tjuka then back over Mildura and Bendigo, could even finish it off with a visit over the Victorian Alps. Pipe dreams like this are great in whilst in lockdown :)

Must have been only non-MEL or SYD based P1s only. Nothing in my inbox 😭

I'm a SYD based P1 and nothing in my inbox either...though not sure I could justify nearly $4k or 250k points for the 7 hour flight

Qantas confirm more 'flights to nowhere' coming if borders don't open soon!

-----

Qantas' flight to nowhere sells out in 10 minutes

A sightseeing flight to nowhere announced by Qantas on Thursday morning sold out 10 minutes after going on sale, according to the airline.

The 'Great Southern Land' flight on Saturday, October 10 will depart from Sydney and head up the NSW coast, cross the Queensland border to the Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast before continuing north to the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef and features low-level fly-bys of landmarks.

"It's probably the fastest selling flight in Qantas history," an airline spokeswoman said. "People clearly miss travel and the experience of flying. If the demand is there, we'll definitely look at doing more of these scenic flights while we all wait for borders to open."

The seven-hour flight will then head inland to the red centre taking in Uluru and Kata Tjuta before returning for a low-level circuit of Sydney Harbour and landing back at Sydney.
