Monday and the start of mrsdrron's last 3 days in Tassie. So Monday it was back to the Ellimatta..We weren't very hungry so shared the oysters and a BBQ meatlovers pizza. It was quite nice and certainly was enough for us.

Tuesday and back to Bellys.
We enjoyed a bottle of Josef Chromy's pinot gris and the oysters.

For mains had the slow cooked beef cheek which was delicious but a large meal so a doggy bag came home with us.

i felt like some comfort food so had their homemade beef lasagna. It fitted the bill perfectly.

We come now to Wednesday the 6th.I had a half day-government employees in the Devonport area got a half day public holiday for the Devonport Cup.A perfect time to go over to Wynyard and try the reccomendation for the vault. It also gets great reviews on TA.So we booked for lunch at 1330.We arrived 5 minutes early and seated. However the group of 3 who just walked in and sat at the next table got their menus first. It took us a while before we could catch the eye of a staff member to get our menus.
Now it is obviously a great favourite of ladies who lunch as of the 22 customers in the room I was the only male. Now one of the staff had that unfortunate pronunciation by referring to all the women as sheep by calling them ewes.

Now to the menus. It was for mrsdrron an extremely limited menu as she doesn't do chiilli and capsicum gives her awful indigestion. She also doesn't like eating burgers in a restaurant. If they had the menu online we almost certainly wouldn't have gone. She did ask if she could have the grilled prawns without the chilli 3 ways and just the garlic sauce. She was told that was fine.

It was just as well we ordered the bottle of Tamar Ridge pinot gris as we ordered. It was nice but nearly consumed in the 50 minutes it took our 2 dishes to arrive.
1609923975781.jpeg.

The group of 3 had left and the couple who took their place had their meals served before us.
Now mrsdrron's prawn dish arrived without chilli as ordered.
1609923603405.jpeg.
However their was no garlic sauce or indeed any sauce. The prawns were almost certainly of the frozen variety..
I ordered their salmon dish.nNcely presented.
1609923716285.jpeg.

However the salmon was overcooked and on the dry side.So we could not recommend this place. There certainly is a quirky decor.

Back to the start - we were sitting at our table waiting for menus, young ponytail boy says " Youse right ? " I said we are waiting for menus - so he walks outside to check the coffee drinkers outside. It took some time to get a menu, and when it did it was all very spicy. Ron's photos show the meals Other diners - some having meals some just coffee ! This place needs to decide if it's a coffee shop or a restaurant ! And staff need training !

Back to Tuesday and another of our drives. This time a loop on B17 from Ulverstone to Penguin via Gunns Plains.Beautiful country.Starts off after you leave the Bass Highway though the outskirts of Ulverstone and then through farming land with views of the Dial range.
1610013463922.jpeg.1610013478754.jpeg.

1610013502243.jpeg.

The poppies are losing their flowers now.
1610013570640.jpeg.1610013584489.jpeg.

1610013638092.jpeg.

1610013657582.jpeg.1610013672310.jpeg.

1610013695396.jpeg.

A detour along Gunn's Plains road and more agricultural land.
1610014187859.jpeg.1610014200328.jpeg.

1610014218264.jpeg.

Then you see a sign on your right to Penguin so across the Leven River and follow it back to B17.
1610014294308.jpeg.1610014306939.jpeg.

1610014324479.jpeg.

More farms on the top of the hill. Most farms have their hay baled already. And the dairy cows lining up to cross the road.
1610014959362.jpeg.1610014970550.jpeg.

And the other side of the Dial range.
1610015077242.jpeg.

And we came across another huge area under cover.
1610015131423.jpeg.1610015146124.jpeg.

And then you start to get views of Bass strait.
1610015470000.jpeg.1610015481465.jpeg.

1610015497686.jpeg.1610015513377.jpeg.

1610015530651.jpeg.1610015548679.jpeg.

1610015563165.jpeg.1610015581628.jpeg.

So this drive on the B17 loop I can thoroughly recommend. On the drive there is Wing's Wildlife park,Preston fall and Gunns plains caves that you could stop at.

The drive was not over though as before we reached the Bass highway I deioured down Creamery Road to Preservation Bay.You cross creamery road on the highway and I had presumed it was called that because a dairy or butter factory was on that road.We didn't find any evidence of one but it was a nice day so the drive along the shore through Penguin and on to Ulverstone was very nice.First Preservation Bay.

1610018244464.jpeg.
1610018270842.jpeg.

1610018343005.jpeg.

The drive out of Penguin has a long garden alongside the railway. Not as good as it was 10 years or so ago but still nice.
1610018436352.jpeg.

A bit further along are the 3 sisters and Goat island reserves.

That’s such a pity what you ate wasn’t to your liking, we’ve had many lovely meals there with great service from the owners and their young staff (all being trained up since they only opened a few weeks ago). Anyway sounds like it wasn’t your day or theirs either!

Turns out that this is a nursery for the berry farms.Pots of all sizes.

It might be a raspberry (or other) production place. There is a place identical to it at Orielton for raspberries that I drive past on my way to Hobart. I too thought it a nursery, with the plants in pots but it turns out to be for fruit-growing. They are rooted in coconut coir, and being in pots, makes the rotation after the 2-3 year optimal growing period easy rather than digging them up.

This company is based at Wamuran on the Sunshine Coast (but doesn't operate the NW coast place).

It looked like some were fruiting but at one end of the farm a sign saying Nursery Production area.
It appears they are into virtually all fruit and veggies.Said to be an Australian private Company. The berries division is run from Melbourne.Couldn't find anything on this farm.

For the last Wednesday of mrsdrron's stay we went to Wynyard for lunch. We have already described that. Before the lunch I took her to the Wonders of Wynyard to show her the Japanese permanent exhibition. Some more of that.
