We then decided to go inland.Unfortunately the cars GPS is pretty hopeless and doesn't show much of the minor roads. We decided on C229 which at first was very scenic with lots more poppies.

But then it became forestry plantations.

We went through the village of Preolenna. Our cars GPS didn't have names or numbers on the roads. If it had that info it was probably only 2KM to C236 and whichever way you turned it looped back to the Bass Highway.Oh well.We backtracked to a road we knew went towards Wynyard.

If you are in Wynyard again a brand new restaurant called the Vault has just opened in the renovated Bank of Australasia building near the river. Similar pricing to the Wharf but far far far nicer.

Incredible renovation and the toilet is a sight to behold in itself.

Actually @jakeseven7 I was told about that restaurant by a local I sat next to, on the plane down from Brissy on my first trip down a couple of weeks ago, but we didn't plan ahead and this trip to Wynard was a spur of the moment on the day.
But it is definitely on our to do list, probably in February.

Make sure you book it’s very popular!

(And make sure you use the restrooms :) )

After lunch another drive over some of Tasmania's back roads.Today first on C153 from sassafras to Railton. The first 2-3 Km were past an apple orchard. The fruit was being thinned.
1609484071602.jpeg.1609484085126.jpeg.

Then a cherry orchard.
1609484109437.jpeg.

Good views again of Mt.Roland and the Western Tiers.
1609484150669.jpeg.1609484169235.jpeg.

Then over the Mersey valley again to Mt.Roland.
1609484230710.jpeg.

Then Railton comes into view.

A quick drive around Railton - the topiary town.
1609568263154.jpeg.

Also home to Seven Sheds brewery. Not a bad drop.
Then back out the same way crossing the Mersey river.
1609568418848.jpeg.

Many of the paddocks alongside the Mersey had caravans in them. Also at the moment the hydrangeas are in full bloom.

1609568529826.jpeg.

Instead of heading back towards Sassafras we took the road to Merseylea.A blink and you miss it type of place. But we had to cross the Mersey again but much lower railings.
1609568629558.jpeg.1609568651700.jpeg.

At Merseylea we went on to B13 the road from Railton to Elizabethtown and the Bass highway.I have covered this in previous TRs.Getting close to Elizabethtown and just over the hill frpm Ashgrove we came across probably what is one of Ashgrove's contented cow herds. They can really carry a lot of cattle on their pastures.

Now you would have to be observant but there are 2 beasts who are different.
1609582037844.jpeg.

Not only a different colour but they have a different anatomy.Adding to the genetic diversity I presume.

The next day was New Years Eve.Not something we celebrate. This time however dinner was the last and largest of our East Coast lobsters. We had called it Louis but on dissection it turned out to be Louise.

We did enjoy her. Then went off to bed early.

@jakeseven7 have you actually been to Vault ??

So a few restaurant adventures.New years day and back at Bellys.Couldn't get in anywhere else.
Ghost rock SB to wash it all down and our usual start with oysters to share.
1609920026220.jpeg.1609920042379.jpeg.

Mrsdrron had her usual scallops and I had a pork steak with prawns special. It was very good.
1609920122500.jpeg.1609920135247.jpeg.

And I would change this plate if it was assigned to me.

Over the weekend dinners were booked out everywhere so lunches it was.Back to Drift on Saturday which has been one of our favourites over the years. The views are good though it was a very ordinary day weather wise.
1609920528524.jpeg.1609920551625.jpeg.

Only 6 oysters to start with today.3 Kilpatrick and 3 with prosecco jelly. The jelly was quite bland and we have had better.Washed down with a very nice Milton pinot gris.
1609920729163.jpeg.1609920740968.jpeg.

Mrsdrron had the pork belly. It was not good and was virtually all fat.
1609920985844.jpeg.

I had the seafood paella which was good.
1609921023377.jpeg.

It was a late Sunday lunch at Mrs Jones which is upstairs from Drift. We had a bottle of Craiggow SB from the Coal River valley.
1609921538562.jpeg.

For starters mrsdrron had the carpaccio and I the crispy scallop spring rolls with a lemongrass and kaffir lime sauce.
1609921624636.jpeg.1609921642080.jpeg.

For mains mrsdrron had the seafood risotto and I the slow cooked lamb shoulder. Both excellent.
1609921876319.jpeg.1609921891530.jpeg.

We then shared a great dessert-kaffir lime and coconut pannacotta with raspberry icecream and coulis. However I only remembered to take a photo at this stage.
1609921982713.jpeg.
Definitely reccomended though it was extremely noisy.

Agree an acoustics person really needs to advise them on the noise aspect of the restaurant! 😮
