A taste of Thai.

Sorry I wasn't very clear - I also have the same camera and was wondering how others use it - don't want to hijack this thread so may post in the point and shoot thread

On our first day it was just a wander over the road to Terminal 21.First call was at Take Care where mrsdrron had a manicure and pedicure whilst I just had the manicure. My usual Thai lady wasn't there-she is taller than I with very large hands and feet so it was a more usual petite Thai lady today.Boy she was strong though-you get an arm and hand massage as well.I came out feeling very relaxed.

Then a wander around some of the shops before perusing the food options.Cheese is the in thing in Bangkok at the moment plus some unusual offerings-

.

.

Eventually I decided to treat my lady to the tasty morsels of a Michelin starred fellow-

Now I am not a great fan of celebrity chefs spawning a chain of restaurants.I loved dumplings when in Shanghai but find Din Tai Fung not to my liking despite many here loving it.In Terminal 21 there is also a restaurant by Tim Ho Wan a Hong Kong Michelin star holder. We both felt it had nothing to recommend it so it was with a fair bit of doubt we decided to partake. The place was full though. This is when we sat down at ~ 1400.

You have to go and order at the counter then wait until your number comes up on a small screen. The menu is limited basically with pork and soya chicken. We ordered pork 3 ways-BBQ,roast and ribs plus soya chicken with noodles-

.

The verdict. The food is very good especially the BBQ pork and the chicken which was moist and tasty.Give it a try.Cost-~$20.So not cheap for basically hawker food. But Mr.Chan is from Singapore.

When we got back to the SGS we went down to the ground floor and discovered there is a private lounge presumably for a well known AFFer-

Just caught up on this report. Tell Mrs drron her photos are showing up fine:)

That Cove certainly gets around.

Though I have heard there is at least 1 hotel where loyalty members are allowed into a function room where alcohol is present with a sign saying that we are not allowed to sell this alcohol.
Anyway we will be in Chiang Rai and the LM there doesn't have a lounge so not a drastic problem.

One of our failings is that we tend to bring back little treats then wonder why we don't feel like a meal. This day this was the little treat-
35706176816_b13f365825_n.jpg
.

Along with 0.5kg of mangosteens and a kg of lychees.
As usual in the evening it is down to the Living Room to listen to the music, have the odd glass or 3 of wine and then whatever snack takes our fancy-
34916786024_4378d9e7d7_n.jpg
.

The snacks tonight were gnocchi with a creamy truffle sauce and beef tartare with shaved truffle. Both excellent-

.

The next morning it was the Italian sausage for me after a nice plate of smoked salmon and Iberico ham-

.

After breakfast it was of to Siam Paragon for mrsdrron to get some real retail therapy.

After a couple of purchases it was time to look for somewhere for lunch. We went down to the basement where there is usually some sort of food fair. This time it was seafood and Indian. Now these are prawns-

.

The fascination with cheese continues. Why on earth would you swamp your gyoza with so much cheese?
35758055635_ac25c6ae7c_n.jpg
.

We eventually decided on Thai and went to one of our favourite mid range Thai restaurants-Nara.First a pomelo salad.really refreshing-
35758055645_64745b6aee_n.jpg
.

Then Pad Thai and river prawns with garlic. Both very nice-

.
35758055685_b16d6bc65c_n.jpg
.

Then back to the SGS.This time we took some egg tarts for our little treat. That night we didn't feel hungry and shared the very nice lemongrass salmon from Basil restaurant.Forgot the photo.

Thanks for the TR so far. Will be taking SQ256 soon so it was great to see what to expect

Friday and there is a new menu for breakfast.Mrsdrron thought their French toast was the best she had ever had-the egg mix had maple syrup added and then the bread dipped.served with lemon curd.I had the crab and prawn omelette which was also very good-

.
35733713776_539642804c_n.jpg
.

I finished off with some cheese. The gorgonzola was so smooth and delicious-
35733713816_99f12637e0_n.jpg
.

And the orange juice really is freshly sqeeved.
35733713846_8865177974_n.jpg
.

Then it was off to Central World.A market and food festival outside at present-

Now it wouldn't be Thailand without some decoration and a picture of the King-

Some seafood maybe?

.

Or just a BBQ chook-
35733761366_4dcbdb47be_n.jpg
.

But it was too early for lunch, very hot and extremely humid so back to the air conditioning and some more retail therapy.

One thing we usually do when at Central World is visit the Isetan supermarket.Usually a lot of Japanese products.but cherries at $70 or $90 a kg?

Now mrsdrron loves their Kyoho grapes-taste identical to old fashioned Isabella grapes but at $50 for 750gm?

It was now ~ 1500 but we still weren't hungry. Then mrsdrron saw this sign-
34933872484_ce5ba0c817_n.jpg
.

just across the aisle was a Yenly Yours outlet.Mrsdrron's favourite foods include mango and coconut exactly what this place does-

So we shared a plate of mango mochi and a dish of mango, mango ice cream, mango granita with shaved coconut and coconut crème.Divine.
Back to the hotel and soon after we got there saw this out the window-

By evening we were feeling just a little hungry. You do get some complimentary snacks in the Living Room.tonight the theme was Thai-
35757014756_72a5052374_n.jpg
.

You can have as many servings as you like but we never have more than one. Some nights it is Italian from their Italian restaurant and other nights varied morsels from the Orchid café.
We though usually have something from the Thai or Italian restaurants. There is a list of dishes you can choose from which has become more extensive.however some years ago we asked if we could order from the restaurant menus. They agreed and now it is reasonably common and they have the restaurant menus in the Living Room.Tonight it was Thai comfort food-mixed satays and soft shell crab with tamarind sauce-

.

Up early the next morning.down to breakfast and for a while the only ones there so the staff were relaxed-
35797940105_189bbb6fe8_n.jpg
.

So my usual-a plate of fruit and eggs Benedict-

So at 1000 we bade farewell to the SGS and set off for the airport. It is days like this that mrsdrron's insistence on early starts is useful-the traffic was horrendous. So we still got to BKK for a leisurely checkin and with what should have been a short wait.

A very quick checkin and no lines at security. So off to the PG lounge which is complimentary for all pax. This is no peaceful oasis away from all the hoi polloi. That would be at a PG gate as they are all in the lounge!

.

There is free wifi though the airport has that as well.Really exciting food offerings-

Didn't tempt us though there were some filling containers with the free offerings. After some internet time we went off to the food court for lunch as there was a delay of 40 minutes for our flight. As we left we passed JohnK and family going to the lounge. They later joined us at the gate for some family time.
At the food court was a Fuji outlet-it is one of the chains we like in Bangkok.Simple Japanese food at reasonable prices. We were not disappointed.
So to the flight-

PG233. BKK-CEI. ETD-1315. push back-1411. Take off -1420. A320. Seats-9A,D.
ETA-1435. landed-1541. at gate-1545.

Basically uneventful flight.Served lunch.Only 1 choice-chicken and rice.I had a little of the rice-

As often happens in Asia most were up before the seat belt sign was off.The first up was Mr 1F.From window to aisle in the blink of an eye.

Arriving at the baggage carousel we were greeted by dancing girls-

A taxi to the Le Meridien, checkin and upgraded to a river view room.Very comfortable.
