Finally ticketed, and the seat map is in fact completely clear.

Even though it isn't til July I find it hard to believe not one seat has been selected. Paid the $20 to get in to 80A, I suspect I will end up losing it.:(

Are you saying that you can be bumped from this seat even though you've paid for it?

This is a concern - I'm 6'9", so I want to be guaranteed that once I've paid the $20 for the seat, I won't be bumped at the last minute by a high status flyer, only to find I either have to pay again for an exit row seat, or there are none available!

Oh you can, and if they want to, they will

There is a reason it is a request.

I'm 6'5" with quite long legs so I can just get away with a normal seat. Though with the slide forward recline, I doubt I can do much of that. But I can survive.

At 6'9" I'd say you would struggle quite badly, so pay $80 and select an exit row. Or fly in the premium cabins.

Once you have paid to select a particular seat it is unlikely you would be bumped from it. Not writing that it can't happen, just very unlikely.

It's interesting as these seat have generally been blocked from NB previously.

When I called to do my seat selection on the A380 (long story why I had to call) the Person on the phone seemed to have no idea that 80A was a desirable seat. They suggested 71D, after 50C was unavailable as a bassinet seat. When I said 80A there was silence, followed by 71D then.....

Must have spoken to the same person! When I rang to ask (back before you could pay $20) I got "but you have an aisle preference!".

Now I wonder how well $20 pick-a-seat system is working. Just bought tix for SIN-SYD return for end of March, and on both flights, 80A/K and 71D are taken, together with a few other seats. The rest of the seat map is currently empty (probably with the exception of the first few rows that I can't see anyway). Not that it matters too much, as I have other preferred seat for the redeye sector anyway.

I'm almost 100% certain this is because I'm on the "new" QF2, which is changing from B744 to A388. I think, perhaps, someone has forgotten to block certain seats as per other A388 flights.

Forgive me, status flyers, for I am a tall man!

Interesting indeed.

Just checked the seat map out of interest, 80A opened up for my SIN-LHR flight on QF9 late next month!

Now in 80A on both A380 flights. $40 for 27 hours in 80A is a good deal in my books. Happy days!!

80A was blocked for my flight in September. I am NB so luck there for me, I paid for an exit seat.

Can I ask how often you fly/how many SCs you typically earn?

I'm beginning to think that altea likes me more than an NB should be liked.

I seem to be an exception to the rule

We usually do a major flight every second year to Europe or the USA/Canada. Although we did fly last September to London as wel, as going again this year and I was able to book 80A/B last year, before it became popular and you had to pay fo seats. We also flew a couple of BA flights in Europe. We do the odd domestic flight each year so not too many SCs.

All our travel is for pleasure, self funded.

Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question, folks. I haven't been following this thread in detail for a while.

Do I gather correctly from recent posts that QF is now charging a fee for 80A/K as they do for exit row seats?

Qantas now charge all no status PAX a fee to preselect an economy seat on longhaul international flights.

Basic fee is $20, more for Exit Seats. PS, SG, WP and oneworld equivalents are exempt from the basic fee but are charges for exits (CL exempt).

In the unusual position of being able to choose between 80A and 71D on an April SIN-MEL. I keep switching between the two out of competing preferences for overhead locker accessibility and a wall/window to lean on but I think I might settle on 80A. In my mind I'm calling it the serfty seat... ;)

Re: Qantas First - is it worth it

...
I still have the question as to the trick to land 66DEFG in Y. 80A is just SO far back (but that's for a different thread). ...
They have always been blocked to me, even with special requests being put in to "seating".

CL or PL probably get a gig as I often see preallocations there such of which I have not been able to secure - In reality I guess I have given up.

Next month I need to be up and out on arrival into MEL, so have 50C preallocated - forgoing the available 71D and 80K that I could have selected at the time of booking.

Ooh, let us know how 50C goes - are the only disadvantages noise from the galley and being far away from the toilets (some might say that isn't a disadvantage)?

Been there before:

Risk having the bassinet in use or even be moved from the seat because of that.
Noise from the FA's "social club" in the galleybetween First and Economy 'down the stretch' can be a real cough!

But, I'll be off the aircraft some 10 minutes earlier than 80K.

I had a good visual comparison on 80A/66D/50C.

50C looked like a great option - but saw the bassinets in use in 52, but not in use in 50.

Interestingly I was in 5A and there were two women with infants in First (2F and 2K). (I think one of them was Miranda Kerr).

I was half expecting to be asked to relocate - but no.

Hi all,

I have an upcoming flight on the new A380 and to my surprise when ringing QF to get seat allocation I was able to secure seat 80K on the baby. This surprised me as seat 80K appears as an exit row seat and i thought QF only allocates exit rows at check in? Can anyone elaborate further on this? My only explanation is that because seat 80K has no seat in front of it, it is not considered an exit row seat as such as the true exit is at row 79? Also if anyone has been on the A380 is this seat a good location as on seat guru it appears as a great location. I have applied for a J upgrade but just want to know if this seat is great when my upgrade does not come through as I am a realist when it comes to upgrades and expect to sit in the class I paid for at all times.

Cheers,

You are Platinum hence they have made available for selection Exit row seats.
