You are Platinum hence they have made available for selection Exit row seats.

Everyone up to and including platinum have to pay for exit rows on QF international. The answer is that 80K is not considered an exit row.

Edit: this is only in the economy cabin.

Not quite everyone! I believe Platinum One's don't have to pay for international exit row seats. Presumably it is the same for CL's but I don't know that for sure.

This is the correct answer. ↑↑↑

As far as ÜP goes, it was mentioned sometime around the launch lunch they would still have to pay for exit row seats in economy.

[EDIT]
this seems to have changed

Tell that to those (e.g. me) that have Exit Rows showing selectable on SYD-AKL.

You'd better let QF know. :p

You enjoy complimentary Exit Row Seating†, where available, on selected Qantas operated International flights (flight numbers QF1-QF199). Exit Row Seating can be requested via our Platinum Priority Telephone Service up until three hours before your scheduled departure time, and Platinum One members will not pay the fee that would normally apply.

Well, the odd thing is that it's not showing for a later flight SYDAKLxWLGSYD in August.

In context of a platinum getting free exit rows, I stand by my comment. Now edited to exclude greater than platinum.

Is that for check in or during seat selection? I thought trans-Tasman was treated differently from other international.

Long time lurker first time poster. A380 80a/k great seats but on QF93 to LAX you will get smoked at immigration as you are down the back of the plane. Just did my 3rd Y class trip in a month to LAX and used the same fluro orange express connection card i got on the first tour. Hang onto those things - the immigrations stooges dont checkthe date.

A quick update after 7 hours worth of observation from 70E on VH-OQF (IIRC)...
* 71D has the extra leg room, although it took the pax there a little while to work out that his IFE is built-in to the seat rather than trying to poke the one at the back of 69D (which is indeed operational).
* The said screen at the back of 69D would probably belong to the pax in 71D rather than 70E, since the angle from 70E makes it quite difficult to see the screen, and it's right in the view of the pax in 71D.
* 70E/F/G is NARROWER than the normal seats. Not a problem for my build, but would definitely be an issue for most other pax. Personally speaking, I find it a snug, private, and comfy fit for my build, with nobody climbing over me or bumping into me for the entire flight.
* 69D is probably one of the most under-valued seats - you have guilt-free recline for the entire journey (apart from take-off and landing). It's definitely my choice for the next red-eye - (SIN/HKG - AU).
* Pax are asked not to put heavy items on the floor where the emergency hatch is - although the chance of having that hatch being used is virtually zero.
* That part of the cabin is surprisingly quiet (from engine/wind noise). This part of the cabin is also free of babies, unlike in row 50s and 80s.
* The footrest/net is severely undervalued. Most pax don't use it, and I doubt they even know of the existence of such comfortable features.

Thanks Awesom Andy, a great report back on these seats. Helpful for future bookings.

I am looking at booking A380 flights and hoping to get 80A/K.

Currently I am NB but will be at least PS when I book. I am fortunate enough to be able to book a long way out and am flexible with my dates. This means that if I try to book one date and the desired seats are not available I would just change to another date.

My question is, as a PS and above do you get to see if the seat is available during your booking? This would allow a change of date if the desired seats were not available.

Or do you have to wait until after the booking and use manage my trip?

You could use something like Flight Availability | Upgrades | Frequent Flyer Information or if you ask nicely on here with the dates, someone may look it up for you!

Any idea why seat guru shows the A380 with no seat 79K but expert flyer on my view shows no 79A but does show a seat at 79K with a blocked out X in it.

IMHO
80A/80K is better than the exit row seat.

If you are in the exit row the person in either 80A or 80K will walk around you when they want to go to the toilet so if your legs are stretched out they will always knock them.

I have done the exit row once and not again if I can avoid it.

It what E/F gets back from Qantas ... it's a ghost seat. See similar refrence to ghost seats 29D and 3E/F on VH-OJD.
