So was USD1035 the correct amount for 40,000 miles + 30% bonus?

If your keen for a top up it might be worth considering this deal:

50000 Wyndham points for $143 with a ten percent discount for AMEX, which can be transferred to AA at a rate of 17500 points to 7000 AA miles. You can buy two (promo is for US residents ;)) so $286 would net 35000 AA miles.

How do you take advantage of this if you aren't heading to the US anytime soon?

Once the points are transferred into your Aadvantage A/c you can use them for flights in Oz if necessary. 10000 AA miles per trip in Y (incl NZ).

You buy it now because of the spectacularly good deal and you bank it. You don't need to be flying to USA to use AA points - they are in the Oneworld Alliance so can use flying QF/CX/BA.

17,500 AA points is J oneway anywhere in Australia/NZ. Tell me that's not a good deal?

I'm more concerned with availability rather than how you actually do it!

Yes-they charged Federal tax which I dont remember paying beforebut then......
I knew about the tax but when I tried again a day or so later the price went back up to ~UD1200 so I am guesssing that USD1035 was the correct amount.

I was talking about markis10s post about the Whyndham points...

ferni, you'll excuse us for misinterpreting your comments were related to AA miles, because this is an AA thread and what we are all talking about. Thank you for now clarifying your original comment.

My previous comment is still true: "You buy it now because of the spectacularly good deal and you bank it."

Doesn't matter that you may not be travelling to USA or Canada now - just get there before either:

1. The offer terms (if any) to use them is extinguished (ie. is there a use by date)
2. The Wyndham points expire in the account (I have no idea about their validity as I haven't researched the program yet)
3. Wyndham "enhance" the program and the point are devalued

Now back to normal programming...

Last November mrsdrron and I flew BNE-AKL-SYD in J for 35000 each Aadvantage miles with virtually no taxes.Mrsdrron as a QF WP could not get 2 J awards. If she could they would have been with~$200 taxes and 72000 points each.
Replying to smit 0847-the quote didn't show up.

Out of interest, has anyone tried booking AA redemptions to South America on either QF J or LAN J? (i.e. SYD/AKL-EZE/SCL?)

More/less availability than QF J to LAX?

I have generally found that if i can see a classic award seat available via QFF then i can book it with AA miles. (note however there may be a slight lag between availability for QF members (365 days out??) vs when AA gets to see the seats (330 days out??) so you could miss out in that time).

However - if travel is in the next 11 months then the availability should come across for classic awards (not ASAs or anything else)
