I concur with serfty. All my current AA bookings managed via aa.com let me select premium seats with my QF FF in.
For those who are able to access these seats on AA - after you select them, does it maintain the seats in the booking for you?
I've got some AA flights coming up and can select seats (via the QF site), but once I've done the last sector, I get a message to say that the seats cannot be confirmed. My 'Manage Booking' screen then shows 'No Preference'.
Is anyone else getting the same problem?
FWIW, my most recent issue was one of being able to select "remium"/Exit seats, but the confirmation would fail.I just made a whY booking using my QF WP # through the US site last week ORD-SFO. It only allocated me standard seating. I could see the premium seats but couldn't select them. ...

Called US reservations, was very impressed that the automated system connected me straight to the Executive Platinum line, and the pleasant lass was "my system is letting me select that seat for you, that's done, is there anything else today sir?"
Perhaps hit and miss on the website, but nothing a quick call couldn't fix![]()
I've noticed it can take a few minutes for the system to recognise you're OWE status. I've often just given it 30 minutes, gone back in, and the seats all open up.
This worked for me with a QF issued ticket connecting to an AA flight too, just used the AA ref via their website, and seats are done.
$6800? ouchHave a booking BOS-LAX,DFW-BOS in May/June.
I get the preferred seats showing as available on AA.com, but can't select them online, just comes up with an error. Rang AA - got put through to the EXP line, they told me that the premium seats aren't available to oneworld elites (I'm WP).
Tried calling back and got the same answer. Oh well, first time in AA economy in 5 years, and currently at row 20 - cost to upgrade the three of us to First - $6800
So a different data point.
Matt
I just checked my booking again and was able to select preferred seats. No idea what/if anything changed, but I'm happyI just made the bookings and can see the preferred seating but it's all greyed out. Don't think I'll bother calling after your experience, luckily they're only short flights.
With the OZ portal it seems a litlle flakey; sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Sometimes it can be rectified by removing and re-instating your FF number. (It can be done using the OZ portal). I have contacted AA in a situation where it was not working and they allocated the seats for me (eventually).
It seems fine when using the USA portal.
It does not seems to make any difference on aa.com....
Does it make a difference?
Serfty, like you i have six digit FF number. Do you put the zero in before the start? Qantas has always done this on correspondence etc
Does it make a difference?
It makes a difference to BA. Without the leading zero(s) to make an 8-digit membership number, BA does not recognise OneWorld status. It does not seems to make any difference on aa.com.
I use the 0 prefix generally by default as this has caused issues in the past (not with AA).
I had a similar experience last year - I could select exit seat but it would not confirm....
then a couple of days later the preferred seats turned up but i'm not allowed to get into them... Even tried calling AA up and they couldn't put me in there. She said I can get allocated at the time of check in... lame...
No need to call the US number....
I'm wondering if the AA site isn't picking up my status.
The Australian call centre wasn't very helpful. They weren't really answering my questions.
They also stated there were premium paid seats available but on the AA seat selection site there are.
Is it worth a call to the US number?
