Did you not include the 7% sales tax?

Sweet spot appears to be 75,000 miles + 30,000 bonus miles for ~AUD2800.

Looks to be a good deal but no need to hoard miles with low AUD.

no I didn't as I stated "+ applicable taxes"

Its one way right ? Too good to be true for return.

Australia to Europe via Middle East on Etihad or Qatar in J needs 150,000 miles return per passenger. Assuming one bought all of those at 2.07 cents per mile (USD), 150k miles cost = $3105 USD plus around $215 in taxes = $3320USD ~ $4300 AUD.

in F (only on EY) you're looking at $5600 AUD for a return trip.

I saw that but then this confused me.

Not quite on the money as 130,000 miles = ~AUD3,700.

I was using the special from January. And that was what I was charged.

Edit. And has now been redeemed for two F seats on the QF A380 DXB to Sydney. We have to travel separately but I can deal with that. Should I tell MrP or surprise him. :p

Presume he knows he's flying back but not which class - so let that be the surprise as I'm sure he won't check (just tell him to go to the First Class section of the airport) - or let him queue with the masses ;) :o

Made my purchases for the two accounts that needed a transactions. 3K points for $125 USD all-in (each). Better than losing 75K points x 2

I get to go before him - maybe that should be, he gets to stay a day longer than me. :( But the availability for next January (seats just opening up now) is awful. My flight is on hold until this Saturday in case a later one opens up - I think I'd be prepared to fly J just to do a solo girl's shop in Dubai but there is nothing yet.

Almost selected a flight that leaves just after midnight - cutting me a day even shorter!

That damn Emirates F upgrade has killed me now!

Maybe I don't fly enough  but award flights don't earn status credits/points/miles. And on the other hand I have in the past located to CMB and/or TPE to get reasonably priced biz cabin tickets. Pay your money and earn or not... And yes relatives and friends have used almost as many of my AA miles as I have.

So keep buying miles and AA profits increasing.

I'll keep wandering (in my own way)

Fred

On another note - what is availability like ? How hard is it to actually score the tickets assuming you have the correct miles?

SYD-LHR for instance. Do you have to jump through many hoops to get tickets? Eg LM = hoops

Nope, easy to book online with QF/BA (80K miles plus taxes).
Another option is EY (100K miles plus taxes) but then you need to call AA.

In my experience if you are relying on QF to get anywhere availability can be be as poor as QF. And if your dates aren't flexible you can almost forget it. If I am planning a trip I want to go on exact dates not on dates dictated by award availability.

Buying and hoarding miles is not for everyone. YMMV.

I had very good lucking getting 2 F on Qantas on my dates (just after NY) on Q when the Q website showed no availability of award flights.

Had no issues booking QF F for Nov/Dec. They actually had better availably then BA.

Mate you are killing it.
Apartments twice then QF F all in the same year. What a life

I have to go to Europe twice a year and was hoarding AA miles for a while (mostly through SPG transfers), it was time to use them.
