Don't really need 'em (haven't used any of the last 2 purchases) and US$ diminishes the value ... but the 10% off helps in the latter regard.

Will spend a day or 2 thinking about this one. I wonder if a 40% bonus will be coming along soon (it was 40% in Dec/Jan wasn't it?) ?

Edit; just checked, it was up to 50% bonus last time, and you could double dip across the start of the new year.

This is 40% at some levels eg 30K bonus on 75k purchase plus the 10% off. But the decline of the AUD does reduce the attractiveness.

I used almost all my AA miles recently but still have plenty on USDM in my account(s). Not sure if I should buy more miles with this promo or wait for the merger.
Decisions decisions...

I see USAirways who are joining up with AA soon have the same offer, so I guess rather than be limited to 100K miles buy on AA PA, buy in both? as they transfer over 1 for 1 mile after merger.

Absolutely, they have to finalise the integration sometime, though Im a cynic and still think it may be late this year not next few months.

I've never bought AA miles, so can someone enlighten me.

do you use your miles for award bookings? The same as you do with qantas points?
and if so, who do you book with ? AA? Or can you use those points to book qantas flights?

sorry for my lack of knowledge.

TQ

You can use the miles for OW award bookings (same as QF but much lower taxes) and also book with their partners, like EY for example.
You can book online for some airlines (QF, BA, AA, AB, RJ) and for others you need to call them. There is 1800 toll free number to call the US and also a local one but it's better to call the US number to avoid paying higher booking fees.

So with this offer, how many AUD$$$ would it cost with today's exchange rate to buy enough points for a EY flight in F (or J) from Sydney to Europe ?

Around $3500 AUD for 120,000 points during the Jan special.

I just quoted 100K points:

Number of miles to buy / gift
Miles + bonus miles = price

100,000 + 30,000 = $2,655.00 (USD)

You save $295.00 and earn 30,000 bonus miles!

So add $30USD for the processing fee. Therefore $2,685 USD + applicable taxes

Which based on xe.com current exchange rates is:

2,685.00 USD
=
3,437.30 AUD

US Dollar

Australian Dollar

1 USD = 1.28019 AUD
1 AUD = 0.781135 USD

as expected Pushka is on the money.

130K points for ~$3,437,50

Did you not include the 7% sales tax?

Sweet spot appears to be 75,000 miles + 30,000 bonus miles for ~AUD2800.

Looks to be a good deal but no need to hoard miles with low AUD.
