Access to Lounge flying Air Pacific

Some may post with recent experience but if you book the QF marketed flight (i.e. your booking shows, say, QF391) then you would get access to the First Class lounge in SYD before your flight.

Note that reports also indicate your BP will still show the FJ flight number even if booked on the QF codeshare; this should not matter as the lounge agents seem to know you have booked QF and are entitled to access.

If you book the FJ marketed flight (e.g. FJ910) then, no.
It does get messy though that even a QF issued boarding pass booked on a QF ticket shows as FJ910.

I would have tried this last Thursday but Qantas used all of my 3 hour transfer time just getting me to Sydney.

Pity you didn't!! would have been handy to know as the QF codeshares are a lot more than the FJ ones..

I have never had any problem getting into the F lounge in Sydney on the QF codeshare to Nadi. Even though it has the FJ flight number it also has printed on it that the carrier is Qantas on the lower left.

The answer is as posted several times up thread. If you book economy travel with:
  • QF flight number on FJ metal = Status based QF Lounge access
  • FJ flight number on FJ metal = no QF Lounge access

In both cases the BP will show the FJ flight number.

I am a mere Qantas Club member, booked Classic Reward seats to NAN and have been issued FJ flight number. Am I any chance of accessing the J Lounge in Melbourne on the way out?

If it was a QF booking then you will probably have a QF booking and a FJ booking listed when you log in to qantas.com.

If that is the case then print out a copy of the QF booking and take it with you and you should be OK.

If it's just an FJ number then you only have access if travelling Business Class ( but both in MEL and NAN).

The # footnote applies if you are on a "Oneworld Flight" and simply clarifies that a "Oneworld Flight" is one that is "marketed and operated by a Oneworld airline".

The # has nothing to do with access based on a QF, BA or JQ flight number. (which gives you access).

I believe it's a lot less ambiguous than it used to be.

Unless the rules have changed recently... last April I flew to NAN with my family (Mrs Smarty + 2kids).. Was only SG at the time.. It was FJ ticket+Metal.

At Sydney Business Lounge, no problems, the Agent manually changed the flight numbers to QF in their system while letting me in.

On return at NAN, the agent at the gate had my name on the list and let me in with my family.

This may have been the graciousness of the staff invovled.. or I may have been pure lucky...

Was thinking the same thing. Because although any time access for WPs has gone, they and SGs get access in NAN on a FJ/QF codeshare flight. So why not in Australia as well? Might be a "unpublished benefit" for WPs and SGs? Still it would only be WP and SG...

Confused ..??..??

It has nothing to do with anytime access. It's a QF marketed flight..??

Ummm... it's a QF/FJ codeshare according to qantas.com that gets WP and SG in at NAN. So why not at MEL/SYD/BNE?

I would have thought access would be fine based on status/QP membership. Wouldn't have thought it had anything to do with anytime access..??

According to qantas.com and others here, a WP or SG flying on a QF/FJ codeshare but with an FJ ticket, no longer gets any access to QPs in Australia. Before, WPs had access to the QP J lounges (but not the QP F lounges) in Australia when flying on an FJ ticket. I always thought this was due to anytime access.

The "confusion" is that it becomes a bit strange. A lounge operated by another airline in another country allows WP and SG access when flying on their airline in Y class (but on a codeshared flight with Qantas) and Qantas, in Australia does not?

Ahhh I get what you're saying now. That makes sense.

But yes - if on the QF codeshare, I would think that you would have access to the F lounge (WP) or J lounge in SYD (SG/QP).

That's how I read the access rules.

Regrettably, I think you're only half-right, dfcatch. J yes, but from the rules for Platinum access to F lounges (at Access to The Qantas Club lounges):

Next onward flight must be on a Qantas, Jetstar Airlines+ or oneworld flight number.#
One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member.

Note: an operated flight refers to the actual aircraft or 'metal' on which you fly.
# Next onward flight that day must be on a oneworld Airline Members operated and marketed flight.
Note: a oneworld marketed flight refers to a flight with a oneworld flight number, eg QF1 or AA222. A oneworld operated flight refers to the actual aircraft or 'metal' on which you fly, eg Finnair aircraft.

As the relevant flights are QF codeshare but on FJ metal (albeit metal in which QF has an interest) ... :(

Lounge access ( I think).

In Australia:

On Air Pacific codeshare flight in J or Y class with a QF ticket:
Platinum: F lounge access
Gold: J lounge access
Qantas Club: J lounge access

On Air Pacific codeshare flight in J class with a FJ ticket:
Platinum: J lounge access
Gold: J lounge access
Qantas Club: J lounge access

On Air Pacific codeshare flight in Y class with a FJ ticket: ***
Platinum: No access
Gold: No access
Qantas Club: No access

In Fiji:

On Air Pacific codeshare flight in Y class with a QF ticket:
Platinum: Lounge access
Gold: Lounge access
Qantas Club: No access

On Air Pacific codeshare flight in J class with a QF or FJ ticket:
Platinum: Lounge access
Gold: Lounge access
Qantas Club: Lounge access

On Air Pacific codeshare flight in Y class with a FJ ticket:
Platinum: Lounge access
Gold: Lounge access
Qantas Club: No access

*** It's this bit that does not seem quite fair to me if you get it in Fiji.
