Accor - Platinum Benefits?

Hi. Stayed at the Sofitel New York in March. Great location, excellent service...attitude is a bit...arrogant. As far as benefits for Platinum..."we aren't able to upgrade you Sir as we are fully booked" (yeah right)...No lounge at all...No other benefits. Expensive, but hey, its in Times Square! The doormen look like New York Hotel doormen...the furs that were walking in and out of the hotel...omg! The handbag dogs...
The main bar and restaurant are brilliant...typical New York....Id suggest staying there...and sending an email beforehand and asking what platinum benefits you will get, apart from a New York accented "Bonjour!"

Not NYC (sorry) but I'm staying at Sofitel Chicago and Washington in late-August, and I am hoping to make best use of my Accor Platinum status. My plan of attack is to email the respective hotels a couple days before my stay to explain that this is my first time to the city, first time to the hotel, that I'm Accor Platinum and was wondering what privileges they offer to Platinum members. When I check in, I'll take the suggestion from others here and check in using my Platinum card. (Not sure yet whether I'll bother putting a note in my passport or not... have heard mixed comments about this).

Regardless of whether I get an upgrade or not, I've booked not the smallest or cheapest room so that even if an upgrade doesn't come through, I'll be happy with what I've chosen.

When are you in NYC? I'll be there during the US Open in the first couple weeks of September. I'm staying at Hilton Midtown, and got approved for a status-challenge with Hhonors via Accor Platinum.

I certainly would highly recommend the property.
The suites are spacious & tastefully furnished amidst flourishing tropical plants on large grounds.
Easy access from airport with dedicated hotel car.
Close proximity to facilities within walking distance to local restaurants & ubiquitous massage shops.

Reading through the comments I understand the only hotel offering an executive lounge with associated perks (e.g. breakfast & evening drinks) for Accor Platinum in Melbourne is the Pullman (understanding the lounge at the Sofitel is off limits unless you actually book a Club room...)

Am I correct or are there any other Melbourne hotels featuring an executive lounge?

thats correct, except that the Pullman lounge isn't always open.

I have just checked into Mercure Ambassador Gangnam Seoul. Compact suite but excellent greeting from staff. Given early checkin and offered late checkout. Offered welcoming drinks at the bar.

Are the Pullman Albert Park and the Mercure Albert Park actually the same hotel? I know they show up separately at the Accor website but they seem to be listed and the same hotel at Albert Park Hotel | Pullman & Mercure Melbourne Albert Park

I guess the question is... if you book a room at Mercure Albert Park Melbourne can you access the lounge at the Pullman Albert Park? (provided of course it's open...)

I see - so any chances of booking a room at the Mercure and being "Platinum upgraded" to the Pullman?

Someone else shared an experience on here a few months ago of exactly this happening to him/her in Brisbane at the combined King George Square Pullman/Mercure.

Regarding Pullman/Mercure Albert Park, a friend of mine stays there regularly at the Mercure and he told me he gets upgraded to the Pullman occasionally. Don't think he's Platinum though, probably more a matter of knowing the team there well.

That was me in Brisbane. I didn't actually get upgraded from the Mercure to Pullman (could have paid for it though, but was literally only sleeping in the hotel) but did get lounge access - which unfortunately was a waste as we had a party that night and a breakfast meeting offsite.

I haven't tried the Albert Park Mercure so can't comment there.

Fellow AFFer's,

Is there a trick to getting a good rate in an Accor hotel???

I'm an Advantage Plus Platinum, and when I search for availability on their website, the rates are the same as Expedia!?

I thought Plus Platinum's got an extra 10% off whatever the best rate is...

Thanks in advance for any advice.
