Additional Benefit on Velocity Earning Cards: 40K Points, 6 Months Gold or $300 Travel Bank

Looking at it again.. It appears that if you pick 6 months gold, then you need 80 status to retain... By my calculations that's 3 x SYD-Mel return flights in standard economy.... Is that right?
Seems ridiculously easy....

Yeah. Or a single SYD-MEL J flight until 30 June.

(Then you just need to fly back to get the second required eligible sector.)

Does anyone know if the gold status would start as soon as getting the card approval or after the qualifying spend is met? Would like the gold status for travel in late December/ early January which is obviously more than 6 months away! Tried working it out in terms and conditions but isn’t clear. My travel plans over those 2 months would let me retain the gold for a further 12 months

It says after qualifying spend is met: "and (d) meet the minimum spend criteria for the eligible offer associated with the individual card if the application is successful. The selected Exclusive Benefit will be allocated to your Velocity account within 30 days of receiving the relevant eligible offer associated with the individual card provided by the issuer of the card (Issuer)"

Then, based on the next wording above, it means that you have to get the offer (benefit) from the card you signed up to (e.g. spend $4000 for 90k bonus points - not just achieve the spend) - and then you will get the offer applied to your velocity account within 30 days after that i.e. it won't be immediate.

So you could easily string it out to September if not October before you get the pilot gold offer applied to your account.

By then VA will go “what promo?”

Take screenshots!

I recently applied for an AMEX card and was rejected.
I have a very good credit rating but their reasoning was I've had too many credit applications recently - interesting since I've had none for years.

I don't recall a rejection giving me a reason why I was rejected.

Do you have other credit applications, loans etc?

Maybe you already have a few open credit cards?

Who's to really understand how banks work... Although there has been a poster on AFF that has explained to some degree the workings of credit card applications.

Rather than getting the 6 months VA Gold status would it be better to just go the points option?

If you want the status you could get Kris Flyer gold status for 12 months instead via the 100k bonus on St george Amplify Rewards Platinum card (Convert the 100k points to 50k Krisflyer points). This in theory gives you access to the VA Domestic lounges? Is there any flaw in this idea? The downside I can think of is the hard expriry of the kris points?

KF's promo (points for elite status) expired already I thought?

Couple of problems with that - it's 5 KF miles to every one elite mile, so you'd need to convert 250,000 KF miles - and the offer expired on 28 February and I can't see a replacement offer.

The other issue is that 50k KF miles on their own offer limited reward opportunities. You need to have a realistic chance of trebling or quadrupling those points to access the really sweet redemptions.

Makes sense, I thought it might have been too good to be true.

So good, I just signed up for a velocity credit card a month ago and also never received the other targeted offer for extending gold status into 2023.
You have to apply for of on the Virgin website prior to applying for the credit card from my understanding.

I made a choice of the 40k points last night, was about to apply the credit card then noticed there is words mentioning about a confirmation email. In the terms and conditions, "(c) after receipt of the confirmation email, successfully apply for any card featured ...."

Checked inbox again this morning, still no sign of the email confirmation.

Do I really need to wait for the email or is it just normal to have a bit of delay here (manual process?)?

Same. Registered for the promo on Saturday, applied for a card on Sunday, card approved on Monday and still no confirmation email from Velocity.

If I try to register for the promo again it tells me that I have already picked a reward. I take comfort knowing that my reward choice is recorded in their system.

It took me a couple of days to receive the email.

While it may appear everything is fine earlier, it is explicitly stated in the terms and conditions so doesn't seem worth risk/debating if there is some other backend process required that indicates completion by the email.

Alternatively, they've forgotten to enable the email aspect of the extra bonus system, being as it'll be a bespoke add on to the usual offer activation workflow.

I did my choice and application Sunday 1 May, wasn't aware of that little caveat then. Fingers crossed I guess.

OK, I just received the confirmation email about my 40k points choice, so from Monday night to now Thursday afternoon, about 2.5 biz days. Well will start my card application now.
