Adelaide Holiday Inn leaving network

Received this today aboiut the Holiday Inn Adelaide:

Due to its pending sale, this hotel will soon cease to be part of the Priority Privilege network. IHG currently manages Holiday Inn Adelaide on behalf of the owner which is preparing to sell the hotel to the company behind Grand Chancellor hotels. The sale is likely to be complete in late September. At that time, the hotel will cease to trade as a Holiday Inn and will be managed by the new owner.

It's a shame to see them leave the HI network, but they didn't impress me as one of the better HI/CP etc hotels in Australia.

I am not too fussed with their departure, the hotel has had no money spent on it since it was a Parkroyal and location was average. The new Crowne Plaza should be a lot better experience for all although it will not be open until Q2 next year.

I most probably would not hold my breath for a Q2 opening either.

Excellent news. I guess it is just the cynic in me talking as these projects always seem to run late:!:

9 times out of 10 hotels that have a scheduled opening date will open accordingly but have 50% of the hotels business up and running.

Never a good idea to book into a hotel within a few months of it opening.

I stayed there once 3 years ago which was for location I was told:shock:
Very noisy and relatively expensive ($245) from memory.
Bathroom was old and crampt.
No loss and if I need to return to Adelaide it will be the Hyatt or bust.

Or for RA's who only had a choice of two hotels a year ago! IHG has not had much luck with the HI brand in Adelaide - 3 hotels in 10 years !

The sales are a little old now, but Hyatt may have a contract on a calender year basis for management so who knows. Grand Hotels are obviously downscaling their property holdings to match the GFC, going form 5 star to 4 star by sellying the Hyatts and taking a HI on board.

Now that Hyatt will become IHG at Adelaide - I would rather sty at the Hilton. Just please please don't turn the Park Hyatt Canberra into an ICH - I would be very unhappy as it is currently one of my favourite hotels in Australia - and I earnt my Diamond status with Hyatt GPP thanks to this hotel .

Wow, some interesting changes there.

Have stayed a couple of times at the HI Adelaide when I needed the stays towards bonuses. Agree that it hasn't had much spent on it over recent years.

Changing the Hyatt to an IHG is interesting, but it's at the wrong end of the City for me - and even if I was attending a Conference at the next door ACC, I can't say that I would be looking to stay there.

Hilton is my favourite in Adelaide (and in my top 3 in Australia), so looks like they will continue to get my business.
