Adelaide - Where to Stay?

@Pushka it looks like Jam Face has moved to the Adelaide Farmers Market (which is at Adelaide showground in Wayville wherever that is?) and only open on Sunday mornings

So will have to be wine on Saturday and Poh goodies on Sunday (an uber there and back I suspect)

Central Market opens at 7am on Saturday so hopefully you can dash there for some shopping before going to wine tour ….

Nice find! That growers market is really nice and very popular. Uber there won't cost much as it's just out of the CBD and it's right near the Wayville vaccination clinic in case there is a booster 4 on the horizon 😂. You could also pop in on the way and collect two free RAT if you happen to be a close contact ....

The tram stop at Wayville is very close (a few hundred metres) to the southern end of the showgrounds where the Farmers Market is held.

Hotel wise, I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the majors and the boutique hotels are usually pretty decent. Mind you a few of the majors are also aging, but still clean and respectable.

Personally didn't like the Mayfair as the "award winning" mattresses felt like I'd jumped into a pool of feathers - way too soft.

There's a new round of "Great State" vouchers coming, perhaps keep an eye out for those too if they extend to interstate residents - usable for accom and tours/experiences.

Haigh's chocolate bullets are the only brand of bullets I like, but there are other boutique local chocolate shops that make better boxed chocolates etc. But if its open at a point where i have time to kill then maybe.

Once it get closer i wil need to see whats on - any art exhibits or shows, to ultimately decide whether I do a food tour, winery tour, day trip to Kangaroo island or something else. But Jam Face is a definite, Ive been told I need to bring back some samples

Haighs Bullets. Chocolate Frogs. Chocolate Almonds. That’s all.

If you not tied to a hotel for FF guest recognition reasons, then I recommend the Stamford plaza, it has the best buffet breakfast in Adelaide, reasonable rooms and super customer service by the concierge and front desk team. Located on North Tce it's a central location. Careful you don't book the other Stamford at Glenelg.
Within the last year I've stayed at the IHG offerings Intercon, CP and HI
Intercontinental is central, roomy but starting to show it's age, customer service is efficient but not friendly.
Crowne Plaza is new but suffers from check in and other facilities that can only be reached by lift and the lifts are in two groups which leads to multiple button pushing and lift queues (Hobart CP has same problem)
Holiday Inn Express is new with compact rooms, central location, breakfast inclusive, no pool,, no parking

Be prepared to pay for the name ....

Yes am expecting a mark-up over my favourite local patisserie and that they arer nicer than over rated Adriano Zumbo

Stamford Plaza was used for hotel quarantine, in case that matters. Maybe still is?

Sofitel breakfast buffet is the best I have seen in Adelaide.

If you want to go to Central Market, bear in mind that it is closed Sunday and Monday

That's not quite right. Sunday is 'voluntary trading' so it is up to individual stall holders whether to open or not. Quite a few of them do open.

Tues Thurs Fri Sat are compulsory trading days for all stall holders, with compulsory designated hours of trading.

Wed I think is also a voluntary day. Lots of places open until early afternoon, but don't plan on rushing in after work because they will mostly not be open later on.

Mondays are pretty quiet as far as open stalls go. Cafes usually open though.

The June long weekend here is usually pretty cold and rainy. Both Intercontinental and Hilton have outdoor pools, so that's wasted. The Intercontinental still has a functioning executive lounge, but not the Hilton. However, the Hilton has top location for transport if you are planning tours and does an e-upgrade deal if you book direct. There are some Oaks apartments (Embassy) on North Terrace and at Glenelg (Liberty). Both have good indoor facilities and close to the tram. Then you can be cosy. I guess it depends on how much you plan being outdoors. I've noticed hotel prices are all over the shop lately, so wait for a sale.

I've made a fully refundable booking ay Indigo but will keep an eye out if a better deals arises closer.

Not fussed about pool or gym (have both at home and dont really use in winter). Comfort and proximity to good dining and transport main concerns, but I guess all CBD hotels will tick the location box quite easily.

Unfortunately I have lost all my hotel status after 2 years of no business travel and as travelling on my own dime dont need to splurge too much.

Thanks for all the input.

From what your general plans are, and using Victoria Square as a "hub" of sorts, I'd keep an eye on the Hilton, the Adina Treasury Apartments and the Quest on Franklin St (and maybe the Quest on King William St as well), and of course Indigo in case they sharpen their pencil.

I wouldn't rely on Sunday trading at the Market, especially on a long weekend (I'd say they'd be officially closed Monday). But being in the vicinity of Gouger Street is great for dinners - plenty of great Asian eats amongst others, plus there's a few good casual places within a short stroll as well.

Lot 10 Cucina if you like Italian
Reckon we have shares in the place by now 🤣

I just booked Hilton Adelaide for 3 nights later in February, was really well priced and is in a good location for restaurants and the tram. Walkable to Rundle Street and North Terrace too.
I looked at the Intercon, Sofitel, Crowne Plaza too. Also looked at the Stamford Plaza but the really bad reviews on TripAdvisor put me off.
I last stayed at Hilton Adelaide 10 years ago so hopefully it has been modernised by now....

Crowne Plaza better located than Holiday Inn Express.
Hindley St is not an ideal place to spend on a weekend.
Fights, stabbings, beggars, pesterers...
Unless you know self defence or can run...
Its like a mini Kings X.
Stamford Plaza has been a covid hotel, Stamford Grand at Glenelg is the one to go for, on the beach, reachable by tram.
You can get a visitors pass for 3 days, (now $25.50 for 3 days), for all busses, tram and trains you want.
Can buy it from one of the outlets at Adelaide Airport, WH Smith, the one inside the terminal.
The Watson is out of the city, at Walkerville, so you would need a bus or uber.
I know the Rockford is in ALL Accor, and if you want, you can get QFF points and ALL points in that.
I loved the Sofitel, very good, $$$$$ yes, but it has not been a covid quarantine place.
Hilton is good too, right next to Central Market and "Chinatown" for food, there is a Coles downstairs too.
Bit dated as its about 25 or more years old, but has been refreshed.
Crowne Plaza would be my first choice, haven't stayed there, but it has not been a covid quarantine hotel either, not flash, but its away from the night fights.
If you want, Airbnb at Glenelg might be ok, North Glenelg, the beach is walkable, you can walk the Esplanade quite far.
Not as Oooo as Coogee, or Manly, but nice!
Double edit:
The Stamford Plaza guard desk out the front is now unattended some days, the hordings out the front still push people to go to the Stamford Grand.
Guess the Stamford Plaza is still no go.
See if they are accepting bookings on google for Jun.
www.adelaidemetro.com.au is the place to look at for public transport in Adelaide.
Adelaide bus drivers are not accepting cash, so you would have to buy tickets off board from agents, $10.xx for a day trip from a newsagent, but if you are happy with Uber, that one is better.
Uber cars in Adelaide have a small blue triangle on the pax front wind shield, so you know an Uber when you see that.
Holiday Inn Express check in is on the 4th floor, and you have to walk from Hindley St, into hotel.
Go Crowne Plaza, safer on a Fri night.
