Adelaide - Where to Stay?

Planning a long weekend trip to Adelaide and am looking for suggestions of where to stay?

Only recent review I can see on AFF is for the Sofitel and it seems to be quite expensive on my dates compared with The Watson or Hilton or Crowne Plaza or Soho which are half the price?

Anyone care to share any recent experiences?

Hotel indigo is new and great from all reports.
I have been to the rooftop bar there and it was good. Central location and next to gouger street.
The Mayfair is another option.
Holiday inn express is relative new and central location.

Sometimes The Oval Hotel has great deals. And fantastic views. Just a 10 minute walk into the CBD but out of the real bustle.

The Oval looks nice @Pushka but is more expensive than the Sofitel which appears to be more central.

@henleybeach the Indigo looks like a decent option price wise - not available via QF hotels but is available via IHG. I did want to go to the markets so location seems great for that; and am looking for refundable which they also offer.

Im suprised that neither Crowne Plaza or Hilton can guarantee a non-smoking room - no wonder they are so cheap, have to elminate them as cant risk ending up in a room that has been occupied by a smoker, no amount of cleaning can remove that residue.

@jase05 Majestic is very affordable, just cant tell if its a shower tub/combo or not, I want a walk in shower.

I've stayed at the Hilton many times and have no issues with it. Granted I had status to get me into the Exec Lounge which was good. I didn't have any issues with smoking rooms. It is close to a lot of things, although a slight walk to the river.

If you hire a car and don't like staying at normal run of the mill hotels, I would recommend Mount Lofty House.

The rooms we have stayed in had seperate bath and shower.
We have stayed at the Hilton many times and it’s great for the markets. It’s showing it’s age a bit but still comfortable and never had a issue with smoking room but can understand your concerns. We often stayed at the Pullman but that’s a quarantine hotel still and whilst the Sofitel is great you pay for it. It’s less than 100m from my wife’s work so it will probably become our go to hotel when she works back

Sounds lovely but I dont drive, so unless a friend decides to come with, Im best staying in the city.

Mayfair does look nice if a bit pricey, unfortunately due to lack of work travel past 2 years I have lost status with all hotel programs.

I think Indigo is in the lead right now.

Same with me. Stayed many times and no issues with smoking at the Hilton.

We visited in May 2021. First stay for quite a few years and we were a bit surprised at how much busier the city had become. We stayed at the Adina Adelaide Treasury (had been there before) and found it to be very comfortable and well located if you will not be driving. At the end of the trip we stayed at the Old Lion Apartments and again found we had very comfortable facilities- not as central but a nice "suburban" area. I have done reviews and posted photos on here so a search should bring them up

If you want to go to Central Market, bear in mind that it is closed Sunday and Monday. So if you are staying on long weekend please plan accordingly.

Thanks this is good to know, I arrive Fri night and leave on holiday Monday (Queens birthday weekend in June), so Saturday will need to be the day for the market - I want to get some treats from Poh's store.

Will likely book a winery tour for the Sunday.

I think Pohs store has closed - when she went on Masterchef last year. Maybe she's reopened another but I haven't seen it, and was at the market this morning. Her egg and bacon sandwiches were divine. If you miss out on Pohs store then maybe on the Barossa trip do one that takes in Maggie Beers kitchen. The Cook and the Chef were filmed there.

Stayed at Hilton Hotel Adelaide many times pre Covid, and just thought and expected the hotel was totally non smoking.
Being curious I just checked with them to find out they do have a few rooms that allow smoking. These are presumably on one of the lower floors. Exact number of a few rooms was described as a handful. If you book a non smoking room they will but don't seem to guarantee one. Never experienced any smoking issues at this hotel so would always stay again. I cannot see why in this era they would bother having a few smoking rooms.

Im not sure but the Hilton does not list itself as a smoke-free property and room description states both smoking and non smoking rooms which is what had me concerned.

I find it is just easier to book properties that don't allow smoking anywhere or ones that list non smoking rooms separately then no need to worry about the impacts, I cant tolerate cigarette smoke if you end up in a room where previous guest has smoked.

@Pushka it looks like Jam Face has moved to the Adelaide Farmers Market (which is at Adelaide showground in Wayville wherever that is?) and only open on Sunday mornings

Only 5 minutes from CBD.
Has decent enough rail and tram connections from the city. The tram is only a short walk from the Indigo if you stay there
